i need to change the pinion seal on my 02 gt and from what i've read it doesn't seem difficult , but the only thing i have a question about is the crush sleeve.once i'm putting everything back together and i torque the pinion nut down to 140ft lbs ,that should not further crush the sleeve,am i correct?i plan on making marks and counting the threads so i can put everything back where they were ,so if anybody out there has done this and has a tip or two i would apprecite it.the dealer wants 200.00 to do this.i think it's a ripoff!!

there is two ways to do this.. first I will tell you the wrong way ( the way the dealer will do it no matter what they charge)

the wrong way is to just tourqe it back down and not change the crush sleeve.

the right way is to remove the carrier and remove the pinion, put a new sleeve on and with a new pinion nut crush the new sleeve down..

anytime the pinion nut is loosened the sleeve needs to be replaced, I know a lot of people will tell you different but your rear end will fail at some point if you do it the wrong way.
