Broke one of the pintle caps on my car, bought replacements and repaired one but when I put the other on, it snapped off and broke, now i'm left without a car tomorrow, can I run without a pintle cap for just a day or so? The new seal is really tight on the end of the injector.

Not sure about running without the cap.

But yes, bring a pot of water to a boil. Toss the caps in for a couple of minutes. Carefully remove them one at a time, dry that one, pop it on the injector, then move on to the next. It made my replacement process go smoothly.

The pintle caps server one purpose - to keep the O ring and plastic washer from falling off and being swallowed up by the intake. I would use one with a broken end before I would go without one.

The boiling water trick is good, about 5 minutes or so is all you need. I never had to do it with any of the new pintle caps I installed.

A repost on where to get the seal kits...

Fuel injector seal kits with 2 O rings and a pintle cap (Borg-Warner P/N 274081) are available at Pep Boys auto parts. Cost is about $2.74 per kit.. The following are listed at the Borg-Warner site ( http://www.borg-warner.com ) as being resellers of Borg-Warner parts:

http://www.partsplus.com/ or http://www.autovalue.com/ or http://www.pepboys.com/ or http://www.federatedautoparts.com/

Most of the links above have store locators for find a store in your area.

Use motor oil on the O rings when you re-assemble them & everything will slide into place. The gasoline will wash away any excess oil that gets in the wrong places and it will burn up in the combustion chamber.

The pintle caps fit either injectors with a pin sticking out the injector end or 4 with more tiny holes in the injector end
