Pist! muffler guy!

a buddy of mine comes over and he has the same exhaust as me... off road x and flows with tails... and stock headers... and his is REAL LOUD! puts mine to shame... so i begin to wonder why is mine not as loud and mine is dumped!

so i get under the car pull the part # and its #42443 so i call flowmaster and he said its Standard 40 Series - Two Chamber Mufflers with 2 1/4 in/outlet


ok guys about 5 months ago i got mufflers put on Standard 40 Series - Two Chamber Mufflers... ok i had 2.5 inch piping all the way back... and this guy puts 2 1/4 mufflers on it!


THE QUESTION IS: if i get bigger 2.5 in out will it be louder??? i mean mine is kinda loud but not like his ?? any one know if i change will it be louder??

My guess is it could be his motor, or his tailpipes...

My cars exhaust note changed when I went from a stock honed bottem end to a stock 1995 bottem end!

he has a BONE STOCK 94 GT and he has tail pipes.. maybe thats it? but man i want that sound! i dont like the way mine sounds!

You could have gotten used to your car's exhaust note. Everyone else's car always sounds better.

My headers changed the exhaust note quiet a bit... sounded smoother and deeper...

Could be either the header, mufflers or tailpipes. Hard to say.

you are running dumps you said? My brother has a 94 with SLP catback and his sounds mean too, i think it has something to do with the tailpipe shape...i noticed you have a gt aswell and mine didnt sound as good when i had just a catback. The LX style tailpipes sound the best IMO. I think im getting rid of my dumps...i mean my car if F'in LOUD but im not a fan of the tone anymore or the vibration.

i dunno, it just seems like other mustang sound 10x better then mine! i mean i think my exhaust is QUITE compared to others i herd... seems like 94+ GT and cobra's has a better more agressive sound which is what i want... I think im gonna put some tails on it, wish i still had my old ones... i just don't like that you can't see my tails because its a FOX thats why i wanted it dumped

Story time with jason

A friend of mines 302 has always been louder than my 408w.

I kinda like the sound of his ride, until the sticking exhaust valve finally seized.

You might not believe this and this might just be something I have in my head, but there are a few reasons here...

Number one he has tails and you have dumps. I have noticed a smoother nicer sound with tails, whereas dumps are usually deeper. Whether that makes it quieter or not, it could be because standing behind the car his exhaust is coming at you, yours is going into the ground.

Second off, if your comparing driving around, the AOD is hurting. A 5-speed car (might just be me) just sounds better. It stays in the RPM range better, pulls itself down under load, and all around helps the exhaust note.

Like stated before I personally noticed a difference between my 1995 short block and my older one (both hyper pistons). The 95 Block sounded a little meaner, yet actually make a bit less power!

Every little thing adds up, I noticed a difference in exhaust tone between my "race" tune and my trying to pass emissions tune!

are you using full length headers? the reason i ask is cause on my old car i had long tubes, o/r h pipe and super turbos and that car was super quiet from the inside. also when i bought my notch it had mac LT's on it and i swapped to shorties and an o/r x pipe and the car got WAY louder. i dunno what it is but i think longtubes actually quiet a car down.

if u want it loud skip the flowmasters and put some spintech pro streets on it. thats the way to fly, my cars loud as hell and it doesnt sound like every other mustang on the road. get complements on the sound all the time

Same here, i always feel my car sounds so bad compared to all the other stangs i hear drive by but i think its mostly all in the head. Im so used to mine im sick of it, especially the drone of the flows ...When i went on a cruise for 6 days and finally got home and took the stang out for a spin the car had that funny different sound, like the sound i remember when i first took it for a test drive before i bought it. It just sounded so mean and and everything, till an hour after then i got used to it also theres a big difference from inside and outside of the car. i hate how mine sounds from the inside, its soo BLAH, but when i had my friend drive it and i got to hear it from outside , it sounded soo cool and wish i could hear that sound than the sound i hear from the inside. I still hate Flows...looking for some Macs or something
