I'm in the process of building up a 2001 2v motor and am wondering what all it would take to put flat top pistons in, I assume the pistons and rings, but would they work with the factory connecting rods? Would they bolt right up or would i need to get the engine balanced. Thanks
Do you plan to blow or turbo? If so, flat tops will be a problem as the compression will be too high.
If you are doing this level of work to your engine, you are going to want to SCRAP the factory connecting rods so do not worry if they will bolt up. They ARE the weakest link

I plan on making a pretty much all out n/a motor, so it would be reccommended that I replace the pistons and connecting rods with forged pieces, can I leave the stock crank in for the time being? I dont have the budget to put an all forged rotating assembly in, but would like to switch over to flat top pistons.

like everyone else said just swap out everything. Just dont go FI if you are going with flat tops the CR will be to high, if you do plan on going FI just get dished
