I'm in the process of building up a 2001 2v motor and am wondering what all it would take to put flat top pistons in, I assume the pistons and rings, but would they work with the factory connecting rods? Would they bolt right up or would i need to get the engine balanced. Thanks

Do you plan to blow or turbo? If so, flat tops will be a problem as the compression will be too high.

If you are doing this level of work to your engine, you are going to want to SCRAP the factory connecting rods so do not worry if they will bolt up. They ARE the weakest link

Pistons and rings, but like trout said.DONT keep the rods.Stock rods are the weaklink.

Any time you go internal, check the bore ,possibly may have to be bored over, and always rebalance the bottomend.

I plan on making a pretty much all out n/a motor, so it would be reccommended that I replace the pistons and connecting rods with forged pieces, can I leave the stock crank in for the time being? I dont have the budget to put an all forged rotating assembly in, but would like to switch over to flat top pistons.

Stock crank is fine. But rods and pistons are a must.

Just swapping pistons in a mod motor is not a good thing.Do it right and only do it once.

it would be foolish to have to have to tear apart the motor again later down the road. (too much time/money wasted).

Last thing you want is to throw a rod like my buddy did. Get you some new rods if you upgrade pistons. That's my .02 cents.

Again definitely get some new rods with it. And add some ARP hardware too, then you can spin away and have peace of mind.
