Plastic Intake Manifold blew up

Well my plastic intake manifold blew up on my 2000 gt and now I am eyeing what I should do. It has been a long time since I have looked into modding my car (a few years, went to college and also got a cbr i spend most of my time on so my mustang kinda just fell by the wayside) but with this problem comes a renewed desire to get some more power.

As it sits right now to get the Ford aluminum manifold installed it would be around 1161 dollars.

Im thinking aftermarket manifold and possibly cams.

So for that I have a few questions:

1) What manifold should I look at? Was looking at the typhoon but really only because thats the best americanmuscle has. So anyone have suggestions on the best?

2) Cams - I want the comp270s (i already have exhaust, 4.10, and sct chip)

3) I assume I would definitely want valve springs. I imagine just go with comp's springs for $210?

4) Would I want bigger injectors? Or would the ones I have now be fine? What brand/size if i do?

5) I know I would need to shop around for a re-tune, my car has been driving funny anyway so I need to get it done, which prompts me to want to spend a little extra since I am forced to get the manifold and tune.

6) What else am I forgetting? If anything?

Sorry for all the questions its been a few years since I have really looked into modifying my car.

should we assume you cant do the mods yourself? you can replace your broken manifold for the FRPP OEM replacement for significantly less than that price quote if you do it yourself.

I know people that could help potentially do it ourselves. If i went the cam route i would probably pay some friends in the form of beer and some fun weekends.

99-01 PI to PI Intake Manifold Swap Writeup - Mustang Forums at StangNet

above is a writeup i did for my OEM swap. There were things that i bought that you may or may not need to get. considering the quote you were given and considering this direction, you can save yourself about 50%-80% of the cost. The 80% savings would be you just purchasing the FRPP intake manifold for $200 and dropping it in.

others can provide you with their aftermarket performance advice as i dont have experience with that stuff

did i misread? is the manifold itself going to cost you $1161 or the whole project?

sounds to me like its a quote to get it installed by a garage/stealership. or its a full bullitt intake

oh I am definitely not paying the shop to install a 750 dollar Ford OEM aluminum intake **** that. haha. I am not an idiot I can replace my intake manifold.

Also question, my car has a custom tune from MPH from years ago. Over the past few months I have been getting a pretty serious amount of surging and slightly uncomfortable acceleration from the car. Could this in any way be related to the intake manifold? (I.e. if i replace the manifold with the FRPP would that possibly fix my surging problem?) Or I am i pretty much in the market for a re-tune?

yes the quote was 1161 for just the manifold and labor. i just took it to the shop to find out what was wrong with it, never considered actually having them do it

What is the best intake I can put on the car in terms of getting some more powa out of her? on american muscle they have that typhoon one that says 21.5 increase (i doubt that) but yea if I wanted to do this "right" what intake would you get

whether or not they do it, dont buy the manifold from the dealer...order it through AM where u can buy the ford racing plastic manifold with aluminum crossover for under $200...the gaskets will cost you around $45 from a parts store as well....the stealership is wanting over $700 for that combo which is effing rediculous...either way, if you do have them install it, you'll save a ton of money buying it through AM

I think the Bullitt intake is about the best all around intake for a daily driver; same or slight increase in power down low and a nice gain up top. But it WILL run you upwards of $1000.

Regardless, the gains from an intake manifold on a 4.6 are minimal unless you have an all out motor build and spinning it upwards of 7k rpm. I say put that money you want to spend on an aftermarket intake towards long tubes and/or cams. Either will yield a nice gain, and both together will be a very large gain, probably 40+ rwhp.

Oh, as for cams, almost everyone recommends the Hitech stage IIs. I know of several people personally running them. They make for a very nice daily driver with a lot of power made up top. They don't require valve springs either.

So at this point I am thinking of....

1. FRPP Intake Manifold
(all assorted gaskets and stuff, I would follow the guide posted in this thread)

2. HiTech Stage 2 Cams
(aside from just ordering the cames for 599.00 what other parts would I need or can someone point me to a DIY similar to the one posted her for the Intake?)

3. Find a place to re-tune (since apparently Modular Powerhouse is no more in Georgia)

Is there anything else I should consider at this point, I want to basically make sure I dont miss something that would be a good idea and relatively cheap if I do it at this venture with the car already partially torn apart.

afm tool for the cams

oh, what year is your car? in 99-04 they used press on cam gears so if your car is on of those years you'll need to find you a set of bolt on cam gears and some cam bolts
