I have to add a drive shaft loop and thought about upgrading my stock driveshaft for an aluminum one for weight and asthetics. I've seen a few online from FRPP for about $250-$300 and I know they weigh about 16 lbs. The only ones I've seen for an '02 auto are 31 spline and my stocker is 28 spline.

1. Do I need the 28 spline yoke ($50 sold separately) or am I just not looking hard enough to find the right one?

2. Is the cost realistic or are there more competitive rates?

3. Are the benefits worth the money?

4. Is FRPP good quality (I have the 3.73 gears and no issues) for an aluminum driveshaft?

4. Who else makes them and what should I be looking for (i.e. weight, composition, what else?)?

5. What am I not asking or thinking of that I should be?

Thanks for your help.

seems price on the frpp aluminum driveshaft have gone up, i remember them being around the $150 range. You can put them on an auto just have to re-use the yoke from the stock driveshaft.

I put mine on when I did the rearend, so I can't tell you what the driveshaft did individually. It's less rotational weight, and should make the driveline feel "smoother" as well because aluminum flexes more and soaks up impact / vibration better than steel.

You also need a driveshaft loop that is made to fit around an aluminum driveshaft. The aluminum one is a good 5 inches thicker than the stock unit.
