Hey I need some serious advice. I have a 2002 gt with 4.10s, tri-ax, KNNGenII. My buddy has a 2003 WRX. He has put in high flow cats/exhaust, intake, and he has gotten a chip that turned his turbo and timing up some, and also a lighter flywheel. His car is kicking my cars ass. We race to a secluded bridge near my house and he gets up to 87mph when I can only get up to 80mph before reaching it. His car is about 4 car lengths ahead of me.

I think I am a pretty good driver. I shift at about 5500rpm. Only thing is that I am having to shift to fourth before we get to the bridge and he is still in third. I mean, should this extra shift be hurting me that bad? Also, I plan on putting on a prochamber, pullies and timing adjuster soon. Will these mods get me at least even with him.

Also, we race from a kick and his car does the same thing if we start anywhere below 60mph. But if we race from 70mph I am able to barely pull on him.

Please, if any of you have any advice that could help me then I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks again in advance!!!

Im not suprised he's able to beat you consistently, he's got soem substantial mods, and would also be willing to bet hes pushin close to 290-300 HP at the crank with those mods. Maybe more depending on how agressive the chip is. You're doing well if all you have is a shifter, gears and a filter.

The mods you listed should help you out a good bit and make things closer. Dont forget hes got AWD and those suckers hook like crazy.

and you are racing from a roll why?

Drag races start from a Stand Still, not from a roll. This racing from a roll 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' was started by these 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'ing kids and their rice burners. Be a man and race from a stand still. If you do not win, mod your car some more. There is always someone out ther faster than you.

There are some really fast imports out there, do not be dissapointed if you lose to an import. Stop this racing from a roll 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'. It is silly and ignorant.

If you're in 4th when you hit the bridge (i used to race from bridge to bridge in my hometown in Montana...weird), then you can assume it's more than a 1/4 mile. A GT with stock 3.27's will just barely top out 3rd in a 1/4 mile. That doesn't mean much to your question, but just a little info.

Unless you get drag radials and launch like a bitch, he'll always take you down low. If he's still taking you all the way through the 1/4, then it's because of his power mods. I suggest getting gears and exhaust. Gears will help down low and the exhaust will help you breath up top. The other regular mods, Timing Adjuster, pullies, shifter, etc...will help too. The gears will help you pull harder in 4th gear.

You dont have any real mods other than the gears. Put the mid pipe on and the other stuff and I bet you will be right with him. Put that timing to 14 wth some 93 or better octane and you will be right there.

Gt's shift out at about 6300 rpms, your shifting way to early. My 02 gt shifts out at 6300 and i race from bridge to bridge down the road. It is a little further than a quarter mile and i pull away at 112 mphr,Somethings not right. If your shifting into 4th at 80 mphr thats not right. I shift out of third at 115 mphr and cant even get into 4th when i race from bridge to bridge. Mabye you need to measure how far your racing from?

Hey i dont mean to argue but whe i had the STOCK 3.27 i would TOP OUT IN 3RD at about 100mph when u change gears it will make the RPM rap up faster so i dont see how with 4.10s ur still in 3rd at 115mph i doubt you could do those with the 2.?? gears ford makes

Black2001GT, we race from a kick and from a roll and the same thing happens. I dont get your sassy "Kiss Me" BS. You can keep on living in your fantasy macho man land, but keep your BS away from me. You race how u wanna race and I will race how I want to.

I guess Im gonna have to put some more mods on my car. I think the Prochamber is gonna be the next move. It just sucks cause when our cars were stock, I could take him from a roll anytime in any gear, but not from a dead stop. From a dead stop it would be around 70mph before I could catch up. But when I got gears I was able to catch up by about 45mph. But now that he has that chip that tweeked his turbo, along with his other mods, his car consistently smokes mine. OUch!!!

I think people are forgetting that he has 4.10's on his car...that will change the mph/rpm ratio a little over stock

That subie is probably nearing STi range as far as power goes, and if he's willing to burn up his drivetrain, he'll own you out of the hole any day of the week... You just need to do the basic bolt-ons and I think you'll be right there with him!

He's correct. Look at my dyno, the first pull was until the rev limiter.

I'm 3-0 against WRX's from a standstill and about even from a roll. You need to remember where the V8 muscle cars always dominate, and that's torque. You have big torque and RWD - two major dragging advantages. I can't imagine an AWD or FWD outdoing you at the line if the power is at all comparable. To redeem yourself, you should at least race him from the standstill once. Otherwise you definitely need to up the hp.

What does "kiss me" mean? I keep seeing that in these forums.

Have you guys entered the V6 forums recently? Everyone in there has turned into a ricer. A guy was thinking about trading in for a WRX wagon or something. EVERYONE in the forum agreed and they were going on and on about foreign cars. WTF is that? I thought I was going to puke. I'm staying away from those guys.

h pipe, mufflers, and a intake and you should take him, a chip or headers won't hurt either. I have a freind with just these bolt ons and runs 13.4 and 13.5 at the track

fuel cut-off is 6050rpm unless someone has changed it with a chip. shifting at 6300rpm does not improve 1/4mi times in a near stock car.

Red: as has been stated, you don't have any power mods. the WRX is beating you because he is putting more power to the ground plain and simple. his car has gearind similar to your car. get atleat an x-pipe, u/d pulleys, and a timing adjuster, and you should be able to keep up with him.

b4 my mustang days, i will admit, i was a ricer. and really into wrxs. stock rex's put down only 168 AWHP tho. im confused as to how hes beating you youve got at least 230 RWHP, plus 4.10s, which pull like a mo fo. his intake doesnt add more than 5-7 AWHP, and the cats/exhaust should add only about 8 AWHP, which puts him (generously)to only 183 AWHP. the only thing i can think of is that chip is upping his timing, and REALLY boosting his turbo PSI, which is stupid to do on a stock turbo and stock internals adding 2 PSI to his turbo's max could net another 15-40 AWHP. upping your timing will definitly help, but you may want to think more of adding a C&L maf/TB/Plenum, or all three, rather than just a mid-pipe. btw, do you happen to know the brand of the chip?

I have stock gears and I shift around 5500-6000 rpms and I am only at 95mph in 3rd gear. How the hell would you be at 115mph with only another 300rpms?
