Cleveland,Oh
im putting shocks on a 02 gt. i have the mach 1000 system in it. do i have to take all that crap out to get to the nut on the top of the shock? is the nut behind that insulation wall and if so how do you pop that out?

Right behind the taillight there's a plastic screw-like object. Remove that, and remove the liner. I'm not sure how the Mach 1000 is setup, so Im not sure if you have to remove it to gain access.

I have a Mach 460 and it is a vert but I'll bet the setup is pretty much the same. You have to pull out the sideliners in the trunk in order to pull out the "bedding". Pull your liner clips (if you buy the inexpensive tool you'll be a lot happier about pulling interior panels.) Once you get it all removed it should look something like this. See the shock tower...? See one of the two rear amps? Rest is up to you...

Note: I hate photobucket cause it has problems but it's free for hosting... But I hate MustangMods more because I PAID them for the service and then they rebuilt their service and after many attempts and emails they have still not migrated my life time account (as promised when I paid) :notnice: .

I just did my shocks/springs last weekend and I also have the mach 1000 audio system. Unfortunately, you do have to take out both subs, and the amp rack. Just unplug the plastic clips to both subs, and then there's 2 plastic clips to the actual amp rack you must unplug as well. Then you must take the liner out (not too hard) to get to the shock tower bolts. It's 15mm if I remember correctly and I just vice gripped the thread part of the shock while loosening the nut w/ an open-end wrench. Good luck!:nice:

thanks for the tips guys. yeah i had to remove the subs and the amp bridge. that **** weighs a ton. its like having a dead body in the trunk. anyways the springs are still in there and the axle is hanging, is it safe to leave it like that overnight or can i hurt or bend something. its dark and i want to resume tomorrow. any tips for the front struts?
