Please!? I need some help with my 1964.5 alternator conversion. I had installed the new alternator taking out the generator, but I wasn't sure how to bypass the generator converter so I left it in. My battery was then constantly draining so I decided to try and take out my converter to see if that would help, but I messed up, now my car is getting no power and after trying to figure out what I did wrong I am now PLEADING for some help. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

I’ve never done the conversion myself, but a few questions first. Is this a one wire or three wire alt? The wiring is different. And, does it have the regulator built in or is it supposed to to use the stock external regulator? Posting pics of the alt, the engine bay’s wiring you’ve already done, and the instructions would also help. Good luck.

P.S. If it was me, I would join Vintage Mustangs forum. While this is a great Mustang forum, VMF is more focused on earlier Mustangs, like yours.

I started researching it. There are some wiring harness differences not to mention, the difference between the generator and the alternator brackets.
If a 1964.5 body was being built from scratch, you would use either a 1965 harness or if you want 5 dial instruments anyway, use a 1966 harness throughout the vehicle.
Google search
Here is a Powermaster product that is basically a 1 wire alternator that the case looks like and fits into the old generator bracket. To me, it is pricey but one of the several ways to convert. And I don't think that Autozone or Advance would have this item on their shelves.

AGAIN, if you are building a 1964.5 or 1965 Mustang from scratch and you want an alternator and 5 dial gauges, wire it like a 1966 from end to end and you can also have the 4-way emergency flashers option too!
