So after doing a great deal of research, I've been gathering my parts for engine to be placed in 66 mustang coupe. Just wanted others to look it over before I buy what I dont have. Car mostly street, maybe take down strip occ.

Ordering
302 shortblock from LMR 79-95
Trick flow stage one cam
Trick flow hydraulic lifters
Edelbrock roller rockers 1.6
Arp head bolts
Fel pro gasket set

Already have:
Gt 40 p heads with Trick flow spring set, 3/8 studs with exhaust opened "a bit"
Edelbrock 500 CFM carb
Mallory dist
C4 transmission (my first auto transmission rebuild), with shiftkit
3.55 gears, traction lock
Edelbrock performer intake

I know first comment will be ," need overdrive trans", and if this transmission blows, thats what I will look at, but for now it will do.
Also know that the intake is not the best and and am considering WEiand STealth, lots of debate on forums about intakes.

Couple of questions- 1.will else do I need with the lifters? Retainer kit?
2. does anyone have the part number for the felpro gasket kit i need?

Thanks, Sam

its not a bad combination, though as you noted the intake is wrong for this combination. the weiand stealth would be the best intake for this motor.

i would also dump the 500cfm carb for something more like a 750cfm carb.

Overall I think it is a solid build, only things I'd mention are:

Consider moving to a roller setup, now is the time since doing it after the build would be too much trouble for the benefit.

500cfm is definitely too small, but I'd say go for a 600 not a 750.

I am not familiar with the GT40p heads but the cam appears not to favor exhaust as much as Ford small blocks like. Most performance grinds have a 8-10 degree bump over intake not just 4.

I received my shortblock from LMR. Its a 91 model.
Ordered the Weiand Stealth intake

Can anyone help with the Felpro gasket set number to finish this shortblock? I've been giving different numbers from different auto stores. I suspect more than one kit will work. Plan on calling Felpro in the morning to get the correct kit if no one knows.

I checked with Anderson cam and Howards and all recommended simiar cams, Trick flow was least expensive and I know it's a popular cam with these engines.

I'm with rbohm and edbert on the carb. a 600 is pretty versatile but I don't think the 750 would necessarily be too much if tuned right and experiment with some rejetting. Are those screw in 3/8 studs? if not I would definitely have the heads tapped for screw in studs.
