plug-n-chug

I was thinking about buying that plug and chug cup holder for my 87. does anybody have one or know how they are installed?

I know they go where the ashtray is but do you have to cut it out or something?

thanks in advance, jeff

Correct, take out ashtray and stick it in the opening. It was nice to have a cupholder, but I did wonder if it didn't push down on the ashtray lid some. I use mine sometimes, and other times I don't. Not many options, dang Ford, what were they thinking. They might as well put a sign on the dash that said no drinking in the car :D

But, yea, Plug N. Chug is ok, no hacking, no cutting, just what it says. I did put a towel under it to keep it balanced better.

Some on here have the one that you change the console lid, but I believe it has no latching mechanism.

The spot between the seatbelt and the center console has always worked for me with 20 oz. soda bottles. The alternative I wound up happier with is one of those "Wedgie" cupholders (about three bucks at Wally World) secured to the passenger's side of the center console with a couple o' screws. Simple, cheap, sturdy, and never had a problem with it since.

The Plug n' Chug is nice, but expensive, and some guys have complained that it gets in the way of your ability to shift gears.
