plz school me on 99+ ignitions

hey i got a 99 GT, now call me crazy, but im not famiailr with this engine and cant figure it out, where are the spark plugs? are they right up there next to the fuel injectors? or what are those things? and what about spark plug wires and coils etc? i saw no wires or coils, i even had my dad come over and help me with it and he couldnt find the plugs either, do i suck that bad?

99+ are coil on plug systems which means exactly that the coil is directly on top of the spark plug so no need for wires. The plugs are located on top of the motor directly under the outer edge of the chrome fuel rails.

the black things with a motorcraft sticker that look like a 35mmfilm canister but a little smaller are the coils. insteading of using spark plug wires, ford uses individual coils that mount on top of the spark plugs, connected through about a 4" rubber boot. if you pull the plugs make sure that you do it with the motor COLD.

thanks, i understand now, how often should these things be changed? i heard 100k miles for both the plugs and the coils any truth to that? my car has a problem idling on initial start up, wont stay at idle unless i rev it once, could it be related? im gonna try a fuel filter tommorrow just for fun

there are differing opinions on the plugs. i personally use autolite 764 coppers gapped at .054 and change them every year. they are cheap (picked them up 1.88 for 2 at walmart), and for the time they are in there perform just as well as platniums. the coils shouldnt have to be chenged unless they go bad.
