Polishing Engine parts

This was touched on in my "beautifying engine" thread, but Paull Perreca and a few others mentioned polishing their engine parts (like brackets) to get that aluminum and chome-ish look to their engines. I was wondering if anyone has alink to the process it would take to do this? And what parts could this be done to. I always thought that most parts where dipped in chrome or something to get that effect.

I have been searching here and did not really find anything. Could someone shed some light on this process?

A drill with one of those soft cotton buffing wheels with some compound would do the trick. You would need to sand the surfaces perfectly flat first. But your engine will get cruddy fast enough that you would only want to do this to a show engine. Road grime finds it's way up so fast that this is an excercise in futility for a street driven machine.

Put out a message to "ALMOSTSTOCK", he has one of the best sites available for polishing of parts by far. Always a great way to wake up an engine bay, well worth all the effort IMO.
