Polishing Problems

I'm using Mother's Billett polish on my Cobra and it is SMOOTH stuff. It's a little pricey, like 12 bucks, for a few ounces!

I know autozone and advanced sell it. Its like $14 for a tiny tub up here. Rob, use a foam applicator and just keep working it in. I'm serious that it made one of the biggest trnasformations I've ever seen on my wheels and calipers. If I hadn't used it I wouldn't have thought that the shine could get any better than it was with the regualr mothers stuff, but after seeing what the billet polish did the other shine looked like crap. Let me know if you use it and if it makes a believer out of you. I will warn you though that it does require more time to really start to work than the regular mothers, maybe its not as abrasive???

I allready have one off Washer fell down my intake runners without me knowing when I was removing my intake... Guess it stuck to the intake and when I lifted it off it fell it. Heard it when I started up the car then imediatly shut it off. I have taken it out and smoothed the head backdown... Hope theres no serious damage done but everything seems to be OK to put it back together once I get some gaskets. Think I'm running a little lean?

hehe, brings back memories for myself. I did the same thing with my old coupe cept with a screw. I didn't know which head it fell into though so I took a stab in the dark and figured it was a 50/50 chance of pulling the correct head off and with my luck it wasn't the one I was looking for....intake is looking pretty good though man

I have a polishing problem also.. How will i keep this clean? Hopefully the Zoop seal i ordered will work well. Anyone actually use this stuff?

Paul, Can I use a car wax foam pad to "work it in"?

Then, do you just wipe off with a clean towel, or buff it off with something powered?

Mike- I just zoop sealed my 6 bogart wheels, brake calipers, alt., inlet elbow and my T-body. I just did it like a month ago so I can't tell you for sure how well it works other than the fact that I don't get water spots anymore on any other those parts I did. If you buy the 4oz kit, do not mix it all. We mixed ours and it was MORE than enough to do all of my stuff and my dad's 4 bogarts wheels, his alt, inlet elbow, etc. Also, I had trouble with scatching my wheels when I would clean them before applying the xoop seal, but a switch to microfiber towels fixed that. Do not put it on too heavy, I did and its a PITA to get off, it hardens like glue. I almost ran out of the last part hardener stuff long before I would have run out of the zoop seal. Make sure all your parts are completely dry and exactly how you want them before sealing them. Their tech line is helpfull too.

Rob- that is sort of what I used, but it was the "black foam" type which is a little softer than yellow foam, I don't think it will matter though as I used microfiber towels to apply it in a few spots. Its just like regualr mothers, rub it in for a while, then wipe it off. Get some micro fiber towels too, they will not scatch aluminum if you are somewhat delicate with them. This was a MAJOR problem with my wheels as they are 90%+ raw aluminum which makes it very soft, microfiber and the black sponge were the ONLY things that didn't scratch them. What is it coming to when I'm telling you what I did with polishing???

Let me know how that stuff works. I have not heard a whole lot about it, probably because it is fairly new, but would be interested to see how good it works. ALMOST STOCK (Paul) doesn't use any type of sealant or anything and he says he doesn't have any problems keeping it clean. And believe me, he drives the heck out of the car. With all that work going into polishing, watching it fade away would really suck!

What do you guys use for buffs? I got a 4" spiral sewn buff, which i think you guys use for tripoli, right? What do you use for white rouge? same type of buff? i need to pick up another. i saw that they had a loose sewn buff, but thought that might have been too loose....

By the way, arent you supposed to use the supplied cloths for applying the mixture? Or are they for cleaning only?

I just got my package in. Went with the 4 oz kit, Says it covers 75 sqaure feet. Dont mind me if i come asking questions, since i havent actually covered any parts yet.
Damn stuff is expensive, so hopefully it works as good as they say it does.

If ya want to drop it off at my house thats cool... shouldnt be hard to polish up. If ya do hope you dont need it back right away cause I'm still in school but get out Thursday
