pony trails

So I've been repairing my mustang and getting it ready for the ponytrails, but I've hit a wall.. My car was stolen last year and after taking the column shroud out to replace the lock cylinder, I find that I actually need a new steering column! AAARRRRGGHHHH! I thought I might, but now there is no way around it.
are there any mustang junkyards around here?

Route info/hints:

Leave time from Bellevue Community College is 9:00 AM (first group out). If you have a large group and want to run together (or as much as possible) show up early. (like 6:30-7:00am)

One way trip distance is (about) 50 miles, there will be two (2) gas stops available on the route (easy access).

Projected travel time is 1.5-2 hours to the location of Mud Mountain
Dam/Park.

The park is located just outside of Enumclaw, make sure you have at least a ¼ tank of fuel before entering hwy 410. Gas is available in Enumclaw, but will not be on the direct route.

I think the only Mustang graveyard left is Mustang Ranch or whatever, up in Monroe. I have found exactly jack for domestic graveyards in the 206. Good luck, man.

the part of the column that holds the lock cylinder is half missing, so if I were to try to place the new one in, it'd be flopping around, not only that, but the port is all scratched up so it'd never function properly.

Wow! That's too bad! That part of the column can be removed and replaced. The column is a 2 piece unit, which lets it tilt. You just need the upper part which is the tilting part of the column. But you probably have to get a rebuilt or junkyard one, I don't know if they just sell that part. I heard that you can get rebuilt columns. They have them because of theft problems like yours.


You can take the electrical switch off which is half way down the column and just start it by hand, no key. You will see what I mean if you take it off. My kid had to do this for awhile until I finally got around to fixing his column. At least that way you can drive the car.

Take off the metal plate under the column. The plate is what the plastic trim hooks to; it is not part of the column. Now you can see the column and about halfway down the on the underside is the electrical switch that turns the car on and off. Your switch should be colored white. I just did a 95 so everything should be the same. It is held on with 2 torx screws. They are the tamperproof kind so you will need a torx bit with a hole in the middle. I got a set at a local napa store. Take the switch off and there is a pin sticking out of it. Just move the pin to start and turn off the car. It is spring loaded from start to run so when you let go after starting it pops to the run position. Each position has a notch it stops in. Accessory, off, on, start. It is just like the key.

There are 2 plastic rods that run down the column from the key switch to this switch. All you are doing is activating it by hand instead of turning a key. You just leave the switch hanging while you drive. It won't take long to do this and you will hitting the pony trails!! If you make it to the roundup on Sunday look me up!

ok all in all, the cruise wasn't long enough, but there was a good showing of cars. awesome burnouts bill, and I like the drift I saw in the rear veiw!
