Poor fit on PYPES violator mufflers

Hey everyone,

New member here,

I just got a set of pypes violators from Brenspeed the other day. When I installed them, the fit was very loose where the inlet pipe connects to the over-axle pipe. With the band clamp completely maxed out the muffler was still loose enough to slip right off. Needless to say, there was a very noticable leak at the connection. I've tried a different type of clamp and was able to get the mufflers to snug up, but they still leak real bad. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they went about fixing it. I know these are very popular mufflers and Brenspeed told me that the inlet pipes are a little bigger than they really should be. Thanks in advance for your insight on this problem.

Thanks,

I really appreciate the response and all of the other great info i've been gathering from this forum. I called Brenspeed today and they told me that the inlet pipes on PYPES mufflers are sometimes slightly too big , but nothing like what i'm experiencing. If I'm the only one who has had this problem, I might try to have my violators replaced but I really hate being pushy...

Thanks a lot for the tip,

Will

Thanks again for all the insight,

I used a cutting wheel to add two more slots on the muffler's inlet pipe (to allow the inlet pipe to draw up tighter to the over-axles) and used those real wide stainless band clamps that some auto parts stores have. Now my violators fit very nice with no leak whatsoever. Funny though, after all that trouble, i kinda like the sound of the stock mufflers better at idle and cruise! Though the PYPES do sound mighty mean under acceleration.

Thanks again for the input,

Will

Well,

I took my first trip ('bout 5 hours) in the stang since the violators and I must say that I like them a lot more now than I did at first. Cruising w/ the windows down next to the divider wall on the Cross County was awsome. I also got some compliments on the sound at filling stations. Best of all, still no exhaust leaks or problems. Off road pipes sure are tempting but I just can't justify them since I need to pass (strict) emissions control here in NY. I can't wait till I hear one of you guys and/or gals sporting them though. I'm sure they gotta sound real mean.

Thanks ,

Will

I had nothing but problems with those Violaters until I used a Genuine Ford muffler clamp.Once I installed them no more problems except for the cost of them.I feel "violated" for having to buy clamps that should have been provided in the first place.Get with it Pypes!
