yes another one of these threads but i am so pissed that im only getting 8 mpg because it is killing me. So far i have done a tune up including spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, and i got one of those code readers from walmart. No codes have come up but im not exactly sure if i used it correctly. There is a black 6 pin plug and then the 1 pin white/grey plug. do i just use the 6 pin or the 6 pin and white plug? Someone told me the pvc valve and 02 sensors. I have bought o2 sensors but they are not in yet. I also was told to disconnect the o2 sensors and that might help if that is the problem. It seams that im still getting the same mpg even with them disconnected. The car runs great and has 80,00 miles on it. Im not even driving hard just with a lil here and there. What else should i look into?

clean iac, tps, maf sensor, i think i may be forgetting another sensor somewhere. run some sea-foam or other cleaner through the fuel and brake booster. That should help somewhat.

Put in the new O2 sensors, then see what that does.

Maby you should take it to a auto tech that know's what he's doing.

i have ran some seafoam through the brake booster and fuel also. Ill try cleaning those things tomorrow. What should i use carb cleaner?

would a fuel pump kill switch have anything to do with it or affect it? It probably sounds stupid but I dunno.

I looked at my tps and theres nothing in the middle of it? I can see the end from that thing that opens and closes inside the throttle body.

I have the manual for the Actron scanner and it looks to be Murphy-proof. Did you read the manual at all before trying to use the scanner?

Copied from the Actron Scanner manual...

"The Code Scanner plugs into the vehicle “Self-Test” connector which is located in the engine compartment.
• The EEC-IV computer system (most 1984 & up vehicles) uses TWO test connectors.
– A large six sided connector.
– A small single wire “pigtail” connector.
Both of these connectors must be plugged into the Code Scanner before use."

If the scanner is connected properly and the system finds no codes, you will get an 11 (two flashes).

The TPS is a variable resistor, much like the volume control on a radio. It is used to tell the computer the position of the throttle butterfly, or how far open the throttle is.

Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.

Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control 1988-1993 by Charles Probst :ISBN 0-8376-0301-3.

It's about $20 from Borders.com see http://www.amazon.com/ . Select boo...very good, and I found it to be very helpful.
