Pops and grinds out of reverse help!

heres the problem, ok its a 88 gt 5.0 5 speed t-5 tranny. when you stick in reverse it pops out and grinds,try holding it there grinds and pops out. post any comments that it could be,i want to narrow it down and get the car on the road again

sounds like the tranny is shot,throwout bearing,clutch? what could my problem be?

Have you tried putting the car in a forward gear before putting it into reverse? Or double clutching it?

1-2/reverse slider teeth are prob worn down.

$30 part, just gotta tear into the tranny


Of course, could be other probs. Don't know til you look

Ok on my 1990 ragtop it always grinded the gears going into reverse if engine was high rpm than a idle, synchros were going out in 4th gear too, but anyway I just shifted it into 5th gear then down to reverse worked like a champ, & you could always try shifting it into reverse before you start the engine.

Its embarrassing grinding those gears..

tryed all the shirting certain way stuff. yes its embarresing ,exspecially when i was trying to back out of somwhere with lots of people around
