just trying to get some pro's and con's on doing this.is it worth the time to have this done?i really dont want to break the bank on a new set of aluminums and im having trouble finding gt-40 irons already assembled.dont know how much power can be made with a set of e7's ported.going to run a gt-40 intake,70mm tb and a 76mm c&l on 24lb inj.roller rockers1.6 or1.7's,dont know which ones yet.and im also not sure about a cam,ive read some bad things about all the fms 303's,probably go with a tfs stage 1.i know this is alot more than the thread said but i dont want to buy the wrong stuff and have to buy it again so any help out there guys? :bang:

waste of time
i put 1000 in to my stock heads on my 93 with bigger valves, porting, and all
then bought some edel's and dropped another half second off what the stock ones did!!!!!!!
dont waste your time

I've ported several sets myself and you can get a performance gain for sure.

By the time you get all the stuff needed to port them and a fresh valve job, IMHO, the cost is not justified.

You can get NEW older Ford Aluminum take off heads for next to nothing which would most likely yield about the same gains and you'd drop 50 lbs.

They won't be on par with a TFS, Edel, AFR, etc head, but you won't have spent that much either.

Even if you find a pretty good deal on some better heads, you usually have to spend some money for fresh v job & springs.

I'm happy with my ported and shaved E7s, but I'm now saving up for some AFR or TW aluminum heads (damned horsepower bug keeps coming back). Same story with my B303 cam, I love it but will get a TFS stage 1 when I can. You have the right attitude, do your research, be patient, and save up for what you want so you only have to do it once.

allright, thanks guys.i wont waste the time doing those i guess i'll just have to break the bank, come off the wallet and buy some alums.prolly get that tfs track heat engine kit and have those heads ported cuz i know they are not.thanks for the help

If you have $400 or less into them, then it is worth it. Otherwise it is not.

Do you have 24's, MAF, TB... yet?

If not, then don't. It will be a waste of money with e7's. You would be better off just porting the heads and using a 100 shot, than getting MAF, injectors, TB, dyno tune...

a cheap way is also getting early 351 heads, alreadt have bigger valves and the runners are capable of better air flow,
One of the best suggestions you'll ever get....I had a 89 LX 5.0 w/a B303 cam, and 351 heads and 3.73's. People thought that I was spraying the car it ran so good....she went 12.80's on the stock fuel system and stock intake system....

:hail2: That's a great idea! I wish that I knew that a long time ago. Are you talking about 2V or 4V heads, there is a difference but I can't remember what.

Been too long for me to remember but let me raise a flag of warning, OK?

Some of those heads had really big chambers which lowers your compression too much.

Still the fact remains, if they need a fresh v job and the stock springs are tired, which is more than likely, you can have more money in em than you might want to.

Best thing to do with older Ford iron heads is to work it so that you can sell em to the next guy who wants a little bit more performance for the same or close to the same amount of money when your ready to step up to a better head.

Probably 4V heads then, I think they had the smaller (for Windsor) and quenched (cleveland) combustion chambers to raise the compression ratio. You make a good point about Ford heads...that's how I got my ported and shaved heads, from a friend.

Ok, so after reading this I am basically going to wait for the new heads. How about porting the lower intake in the meantime? Is this worth it? Where will I feel the power gain if any? Thx.

Another thing to be careful about with those old 351 heads....

Some had HUGE valves. They won't even come close to clearing with our pistons.

Valve angle + lack of free drop + valve size = (probably) not going to work.

If you wanna keep the cost down, why not just do what most of the guys do and find a set of iron p heads?

If you can't find those then the regular gt40's won't cost you but a few less hp.

btw, what are your goals or expectations for your combo?

Me? Simple, I want to have the capability of 12's with traction or at leat know the car would do it with slicks or something.

I am not the kind to take the car to the track every week. I want it driveable on the street so I am not going to take off the a/c and start removing radio buttons for less weight, lol.

I am finding that the 94' vert is the slowest muscle car I've ever had so to speak. It takes a lot of modding to make it go but it has potential.

My gosh,

If 12.xx in the 1/4 mile is your goal .............

With real slicks and real gears .............

Your not too far from your goal now!

Your gonna have to drive it like you hate it and not be afraid to break it!

and don't be suprised when it does break...... :rlaugh:

The early heads you guys are talking about are the DOOE heads... they have a pretty small combustion chamber cc, and flow well, and are equipped with 1.94, and 1.60 valves.... same my e7's have now... they will move a car if put together right, You could prollly piece some of those together for around 300$ or so if you got the heads dirt cheap....
