Do you folks just put bonnets on the foam head to use it? The instructions don't describe what to do. I bought six inch bonnets at the car parts store.

I would invest some time in learning how to use it. I use Meguiars pads for both polishing and waxing. I typically remove by hand, but you can use the bonnets. Read a bunch at Autopia.com, Meguiars.com, autogeek.com and you can learn a bunch about how to use the polisher to get the best results.

Good Luck,

Matt

I second that. Basically, I use 6" foam Lake Country pads to apply my product and remove by hand as well. There are many different types of pads out there you can use, each with different levels of cut, so I would try to do a little research on the different applications out there and find the one that suits what you are trying to accomplish.

Here are a couple of good places to start that Matt mentioned...

The following is another good resource on using the 7424...

http://autopia.org/forum/guide-detailing/80223-using-porter-cable-7424-car-polisher.html

http://www.autogeek.net/po.html (has some nice videos on how to use it about halfway down the page)

It looks like a lot at first, but once you find the right product/pad combo, it's a piece of cake. Like I mentioned, I like Lake Country and use their orange and white pads mainly. I have their black and blue pads which are mainly used to apply glazes or waxes, but I put those on by hand. The orange pad is mainly used as a light cutting pad to remove swirls and marring along with Poorboy's World SSR 1 or 2.5, depending on the amount of swirls. I then use the white pad to apply Polish with Carnuba (again, a PW product) and then apply a wax by hand afterwards. Otherwise, I would use the orange pad and then skip straight to a sealant.

You might want to return the bonnets to the store you got them from and look in to getting a foam pad kit with the velcro backing plate included. Check out the following link...

By the way, got any pics of the car or of what you are working on or trying to remove?
