I traded for an 88 5.0 mustang at the beginning of the week and everything was fine up until 2 days ago. I parked it and when I went to leave again it wouldn't start, it just kept cranking and cranking. It was low on gas so I figured it was out so I thought nothing of it. I put a gallon in it yesterday so I could make it to the gas station and to have a push button wired correctly in it (more on that later). That didn't work so I put 2 more gallons in it thinking the first wasn't enough but it didn't change the situation, just kept cranking and cranking but wouldnt turn over. I dumped a little gas in the carb and it started long enough to burn that off before dying again. So at this point the battery needed charged so I hooked the jumpers up and it started but was idling high, around 1500 rpm. It ran for about 45 seconds before dying again. I checked the fuel relay but there isn't one, just a plug where I'm guessing it should be. So I pull up a fuse box diagram but can't find the fuel pump fuse. I took a little break because by now I'm fuming and when I tried it again it started but just like before it idled around 1500 rpm and died. This time it ran for a few minutes though. I brought my girlfriend and she turned the key while I took the gas cap off to listen for the fuel pump to kick on and I didn't hear it. But the thing is before me someone tries to wire a push button and did it wrong, so I have to turn the key to the on position, pop the hood, and bridge the starter solenoid to start it so I don't know when the fuel pump kicks on in that process. It started this morning but died after about 10 seconds. I'm lost and need some advice from those with way more experience than I have. Thank you in advance for any input.
