ok, so i bought a new summit one wire alternator. i was looking at my engine compartment today and trying to figure out how to do the cleanest installation possible. i'm trying to bring the ol' gal back up to par so the details are important right now. why do it if it's gonna be half ass, ya know? so anyway i have to run a minimum 4 gauge power wire from the alt to the battery or the starter relay. keep in mind i have my battery relocated to the hatch. well my starter relay is pretty cramped with accessories on the hot side. so... i was thinking. my battery has both top and side posts. would it harm anything to run the hot wire from the alternator to the pos+ side post on the battery, and keep the pos+ battery cable on the top post that runs to the starter relay? in theory ( this is coming from someone with ZERO electrical experience ) it should work, correct? alt charges the battery to the side post, battery provides power to the starter relay and accessories from the top post. any dangers with a setup like that? or am i going to fry my car like a slug on a hot sidewalk?

Coming from someone who is a certified electrician, you will be perfectly fine with that setup. I would advise you to install some breakers/fuses. It would suk to have a short which could easily catch fire.

Try running the alt power wire under the engine and feed it up to the back of the alternator parallel with the EFI fuel lines. You can zip tie it to the starter power wire for support.
