I am sandblasting (and it sucks) surface rust off the stang, it rusted after I had stripped it last summer and put a light coat of primer on it.

My question is is there omething I should wash it with prior to putting primer on it to keep from having a rust problem if there is any spores left behind:shrug:

thanks

there are wash primers, self etching primers, and epoxy primers. all are said to have better rust prevention than just urethane primer alone. urethane primer will absorb moisture, so if the car is ouside soaking up the rain, then the primer wont do much to protect the metal. epoxy primer would be a better choice.

call your local paint supplier and ask them. they have the best knowledge of their paint systems.

NO!! You must clean the bare metal before spraying with a good solvent such as "metal wash" or a similar product. Use lint free rags. Even after you primer, you should put some type of base coat on to prevent rust. Most, if not all primers will absorb moisture.
