My favorite polished part is a toss up between my Driveshaft where it rubs the e-brake cable and my Front struts where the tire rubs them.

How hard was it to dissassemble the alternator for polishing?

it wasnt that bad. take off pulley, remove reglator on back of alternator, remove 3 bolts holding the case together, and then it should all come apart. that black piece in the middle was tuff to get out. had to pry it out.

make sure you mark the alternator on the bottom so its easier to line it up the case and put it back together.

What do you mean by mark the bottom?

Any suprizes like springs or random parts that fall off w/o you knowing where they came from?

i meant scribing a line for reference for reassembly.

the only thing that fell out was a ring that goes in between the armature and the front half of the case. that was only because i didnt notice it while taking it apart. everything was really straight forward.

Cool, I'll have to remember this for next winter. Did it take long to get it smooth? I'm sure you used a dremel right?

This is going to sound funny but my favorite polished part on my car is my aluminum driveshaft. I don't have a pic but I put a mirror finish on it. I got a little undercoating on it before so I just wanted to get it off while I was doing my transmission. Polished a small area and ended up doing the whole thing.

I've never seen anything like that, is that something that is available at home deopt or something? What grit were the pads? Sorry for all the Q's but that alternator has been intimidating me. Seeing a result like yours is once again sparking my interest (bad pun)

you can get the discs in very fine.

dont be intimidated by the alt. i was too untill i took it apart. then after i took it apart and back together about 10 times to see how it would look i can do it easy.

They are the stainless versions. They look about 10 times better now. They were pretty dirty here. I spent a good 2 hours shinning them up. They are not as easy as I thought. Arms keep getting tired.........
