Anyone ever installed a power antenna? I have a short antenna right now, but have always thought that a power one would be cool. I'd want a black one. Had one I put on my previous car that I got at one of the major car parts stores (don't recall which anymore), but it made a loud clunking noise when it got fully extended or retracted to shut off. Had people always wondering what the noise was. Factory antennas seem to be more quiet. Also after a year or two, the plastic piece inside the aftermarket antenna shaft that pushes or pulls the shaft up and down broke, and then only the motor would run and clunk and I was down to a manual antenna by needing to pull it out by hand. Anyone have any luck with a particular brand, especially in a Mustang?

I've heard of a couple of guys retrofitting the T-Bird/Cougar/Lincoln power antenna's to their stangs. They work pretty well. I've never seen them in black though....as a matter of fact, I've never seen any power antenna in black. You might just have to live with chrome.

I'm thinking along these lines again, especially since I will be replacing the inner fender skirt and have the area under the stock antenna exposed. Seems like a perfect time to do this project. Does anyone else have any new input? I've done some Web searches and even looked at Crutchfields. Most universal antennas are vague saying they work with Ford, but none specific to a Mustang. Crutchfield says none of theirs will work with a Mustang when you select your vehicle type. There are a few black mast ones, but same situation with them.

Nope....they're all for ****! I just installed a brand new mast on mine and I don't expect it to last more than a couple of years.

My Mark 8 had one and it used to not go up sometimes, or not retract all the way.

Delete the antenna and install one of those that sticks to the window

Don't know why you would want a power antenna, everyone I have ever had was a piece of garbage.

Guess I figure, if I already have a hole for an antenna, may as well make it interesting rather than a plain stick popping up. I already have a short 6 inch antenna, but thought this might be a bit more custom. I've heard pros and cons to the window antenna; people not getting good signals, etc. Plus then I still have a hole or at least a cap over the opening. Wonder why power antennas have gotten weak over the years. My Dad had a 67 Cadillac until the late 80s, and that antenna always worked and was quiet. As a kid I loved to play with that thing, and never wore it out.
