I noticed at a recent show that every (?) 87-93 Fox with power door locks has a bump up in the metal trim plate on each side of the button on the passenger side only. I always thought that mine was just damaged. Is this intentional or just a flaw? Anybody know for sure?

thats weird coz mine has the same thing..I always thought the guy that had the car before me took it off for some reason & ended up bending it somehow, but it never really made sense to me..

lol, i just went and looked, my 91 gt has it on the passenger side.......weird, i never noticed it till i looked, it's real subtle, looks like some one took it off and bent it slightly, thats interesting.........i wonder if there was a defect in the tooling some where along the line. perhaps they used the same plates and when they stamped ( if thats how they did it ) the hole out for pdl's it bent it there.i wonder if nos ones from ford have them..........if there still available from ford.

Well, before I took my door panels off to replace my speakers, door handles, etc., mine did not have the bump. I had to take those plates off so that I had some more room to work with to get everything out of the way. They are metal, be it aluminum, tin, whatever. When I put everything back in place, the power window/lock wires were bulgeing ever so slightly and I did not have enough room to put the plates back on. So after shoving everything in as tight as possible, I said screw it and put them on. I too now have the buldge. Once those wires come out, they are a pain to get back into the right location for the clearance you need to not bend the plates.

I'm pretty sure it is due to the plates being removed and handled like above, or possibly just from years of use. Ford would not make them that way, and the new cars I've seen, did not have them. I searched for months in the salvage yards to find a set that was not damaged and had intact the plastic trim around the edge. I have a couple of other decent ones, but they have scratches in the paint.
