hello, i have an 89 coupe and it was a 4 banger once upon a time. it has power door locks, seats and mirrors. the mirrors work only in certain directions i think it is the control buttons though. the seats are not working and the unlock function only works on the pass. door but the lock and that is the only funtion that works on that door. the other door does not work with the button but the motor works when you push unlock on the pass. side button. the unlock won't work when the drivers side is pushed to lock. i think that button sticks a little. anyway, i had a tester out looking for power and i got some power to both doors. could it be bad buttons or what. also my horn does not work at the wheel but the horn itself is in working condition. any ideas. i have heard there is a relay and heard the opposite. under the dash there is a plug the looks as though a relay plugs in but it is not there. fill me in. thanks.

There is a relay in the horn circuit.

Disconnect the wiring from the actuators. Then use a test light to see if there is power when you press the switch to the lock & unlock postions. No power or power ony one way means wiring/switch problems.

I have learned the art of taking apart and cleaning the switches on these cars..the result has always been positive, I like to use some sand paper on the contacts and boom I have working locks and windows again. Should note this only works when you can show the motors and actuators are not fried. Voltage check is best place to start.

ok i will check tommorrow. where is the horn relay and can you describe the wire colors that go to the relay's connector so that i can verify if the connector i see is the horn relay. i don't know the color aff hand.

I did too, but sometimes they don't last long before they fail again. The contacts loose their contact pressure and bending the contact arms slightly can work for a while. Junk yards are good sources for a handfull while your there.

This site, as the domain suggests is very useful, Diagrams galore

And I believe this is the one you would be looking for, Horn wiring

I'm surprised Tmoss himself didn't point you there...

where is the door chime module and the horn relay at. i looked in a book and it says in the middle of the dash behind the chime module. by the middle do they mean behind the radio or is it under the steering collumn, i looked everywhere.

cool thanks but what is the box that is inline before you get to the horns on that diagram. the numbers are 14290 and 14401

They are wire connectors in the stock wire harness. Missed you asked about wire colors - old timers gettin to me.

well i tried cleaning both switches and it was apparent that somebody before me had screwed with the drivers side. i did manage to get it to lock but only if i start pushing both buttons both ways. i am sure the switches need to be replaced. and as for the mirror switch, i took it apart and it was filled with nasty gunky very sticky stuff, like melted gum or something. i could not get it to work for crap so i gotta get that one replaced too. i am still working on the horn and seats now.
