My 89 Lx has a power door lock problem. The drivers side switch will lock both sides, but wont open either. The pass side switch opens and locks both.

I changed lock motors on the driver side, made no diff. I had a pass side switch, so I swapped it. No change.

I had the drivers switch out, cleaned the contacts. No improvement.

Both the spare and orig lock motor work both ways with 12 v to them.

My next thought is to replace the drivers switch.

Suggestions please.

Thanks.

You should have tested if the actuators were getting power first. That is most likley your problem. Either that or the wiring. Do you own a test light?

Thanks. Sorry, I did not mention that. I have a meter and test light.

There is power to the drivers switch, and the switch seemed to test ok for continuity, but no, it does not seem to send power to either lock for the unlock mode.

I tested at the drivers actuator connector, with the meter and did not seem to get power in the unlock mode.

I'm thinking its the switch, although it appears that power for that mode goes through the pass side switch and actuator on its way to the drivers side motor.

Wiring? Switch? Poltergeist?

The wires from the drivers side switch go all the way over to the passenger side lock and then back to the drivers side. Those wires are routed under the dash but up near the windshield. If you pop the speakers out of the dash you can see where the wires run and you can probe them there to check for power.

On my 88 GT vert, I accessed the power lock connectors at the top of the driver side kick panel (just a little lower than GearHead from the sound of it).

Yeah the plug is over there, you're right. But I dont think theres one over on the passenger side in that location so I just probed the wires behind the speaker to make sure there wasnt a short somewhere between the driver and passenger side under the dash. My problem ended up being that someone butchered in an alarm that must have had a key ring actuated lock/unlock button and the wires were cut.

Ah so, I didnt even think of checking things on the pass side (for wiring issues' sake)

That sucks about your experience with goofy wiring fixin. IIRC from my install, I could get the connector for both actuators, and one for driver-side-priority on the driver side alone (at those connectors).

Anyhow, I see what your point was about checking things through the speaker hole or at the switch on the pass side - nice point!
