power problem

ok..heres my problem.. my car voltage has been sitting at like 10 volts for the past couple days. so i was driving home and my cars lights and power shut off.. i let it sit then i tried to start it and t started on the first try... but still sitting at 10 volts...so i bought a new battery and and battery cables..still nothing.. does anyone know whats wrong or have ever had this?? could it be the alternator

Sounds like your alternator or the voltage regulator. Probe the harness on the alternator, make sure you're ignition wire is hot. I had the same problem recently, turns out the ignition wire wasn't working. Just a thought.

Good luck.

Definitely sounds like an alternator problem to me. You can probably take it into your local auto parts store and they'll test it for you for free. But by the sounds of it, it is your alternator. Having power loss is a very common symptom of a bad alternator.

I too have recently had a similar problem. The altenator is really easy to pull just two bolts a wire harness and a belt. Takes all of 10 min. Take it to your parts store they will be able to test it right there.
