Electrical Power seat motors don’t go forward and backward

My power seat hasn’t been plugged in and used for probably over a year and a half while my car was undergoing its restoration. I got the seats back in today and the power seats at first worked perfect but then they started slow down and now they only go up and down but don’t move forward and backward. The seats always worked perfect before.

My power windows also were stuck and took a little switch mashing to get them to move again. I suspect it’s something similar with the power seats.

What’s some fixes I can do to try and fix it. I was thinking maybe clean and grease the tracks? I can hear the motor spinning when I move the switch to go forward and back but nothing happens…

You're going to have to open that thing up an replace the crunchy plastic gears that have probably turned to some form of dust.

So I took a better look at what’s going on. The white part in the middle is spinning around when I press the switch and it’s not driving the screw gears, all that happens is that the white pin spins around.

Does anything stand out in the pic? Am I missing that gear you mentioned?

Maybe you got lucky and it's just a broke shear pin.

If the drive motor is spinning inside the gear then that's where the issue lies.

Clean it all up, and take it apart. Those jack screws need cleaning and lube too.

Ok I’ll take apart the gear stuff and report back what I see.

For the screws those need white lithium grease right?

You can use anything that is [not] petroleum based.

So I got the tracks off and cleaned everything up. The tracks were full of grime and dust everywhere. I cleaned it all up and even noticed a little block of foam stuck by the motor. I removed that as well. What exactly am I looking for as far as checking if anything’s broken?

Should I just grease it and see if it works?

No, you are looking for the reason why that small white axle is allowed to spin inside of the drive gear.

Really long video on swapping the motor and and gear assemblies out but LMR says to use white lithium but that is with their replacement parts. I will say I am glad I have manual seats as they have not changed position in years.

Put it all back together after inspecting everything and cleaning and greasing. Still didn’t work. The good news though is I found out if I hold the button forward and nudge myself I was able to get the seat to move up so I can drive it again. I’ll just live with the power seats not working cause at least now I know how to move it if I need to. I plan on getting nice recaro seats anyway

Do they still make replacement horizontal and vertical motors for these seats? I have a 93 Cobra. I haven’t tried the vertical motor yet but the horizontal motor does “work”. When I press the button on front of seat, I can hear it and I feel the seat move slightly forward and backwards, but it doesn’t move much. Could I possibly need a new horizontal motor?
