Power Steering Fluid Explosion

Hey guys

I was pulling into a parking lot today and lost my power steering. Then I pulled over, lifted the hood and power steering fluid was everywhere.

I've never done anything to this pump except add fluid because it leaks a little.

What do u guys think? Has this ever happened to anyone? Didn't find anything when I searched.

Sounds like you may have blown a hose.

All the hoses r still attached and the cap was still on. Could it have oozed out the top without blowing the cap off? I'm wondering if if it got on the belt and flung everywhere because it is on the hood and all over bay.

Also, I want to take the pump off to inspect more but I can't get it off the long stud because my electric fan gets in the way. How do I remove that stud from the head?

Just because the hoses are still attached does not mean one did not fail, I guess if you overfilled the reservoir then its possible it was coming from the cap.

Thanks! It was a hose. I think it actually caught the belt or pulley and sliced it. Replaced it thanks to some great right ups I found on the forum!
