well today i started doing some body work on my car and i jacked the front and started moving the wheels back and forth to see where they were hitting the fenders, all of a sudden i see power steering fluid leaking out of the cap of the pump what the hell is going on here the engine was not running, and to top it off the fluid that came up looked brown and not clear, so how do i drain the power steering pump?

You were forcing the fluid and air around in the pump and it came out the cap, quite normal.

Brown is not good though, pull the hose clamp off the lower port then pull the rubber hose to drain the pump/case. You can also pull the upper hose and force the fluid out that is in the lines with a little air or a small air/vac pump.

i would not only drain the pump reservoir but flush that puppy out (the power steering system).

good luck.

how would i flush it? i'm thinking disconnect the return line and start the car andlet it drain while putting new fluid in to not let the pump run dry. right?
yep, pretty much. i would crank the wheel left to right while doing so, to help clear the rack out. be real careful and safe and all that. :)

one can also undo a line at the PS cooler and do the same thing (i think it is easier to use one of the cooler line as it is lower and easier to get into a catch pan).

good luck.
