power steering overhaul ?'s

ok well my PS pump is taking a crap and my rack and pinion is leaking so since they need to be replaced i figured why not upgrade a bit so i have a question or maybe a few.

whats the difference between the "standard suspension" and "sport suspension"?

I'm wanting to keep power steering and have seen several manufactures I'm wanting a quick ratio rack and pinion assemblies but what are your guys opinions on the various manufactures and draw backs?

from what I understand is the standard suspension is whats on the LX and the sport is the GT is this correct?

also are there any upgrades available for the PS pump?

any help would be great thanks guys

Sport suspension is the rack you want. All 5.0's had it whether they were LX's or GT's, although the parts books may not show it that way. Very often the parts books assume that the LX had the 4-cylinder suspension even if you specify the part is for a 5.0. Anyway the Sport suspension has 15:1 ratio and either 2.25 or 2.5 turns from lock to lock (depending on the year, and how many travel limiter washers are installed in it). The standard unit is 20:1 ratio and 3 turns lock to lock. It feels sloooooooow. Like dump-truck steering. It's the difference between being able to just turn into your driveway vs having to go hand-over-hand to do it.

Cardone offers 3 versions, forget their name for it but its 2 turns to lock instead of the 2.25 and 2.5. I have it and enjoy it greatly.
