OK, igot a new pump for my 5.0. i managed to get the pulley of with a puller, and installed the new pump with old bracket and pulley.. I also have a new pressure hose and return hose... am i supposed to flush the system?? then bleed it????????

:bang:

It would be smart to flush the system before running that old fluid through your new pump.

You can put the return side line into a bucket and do it that way (accessing the return line where it leaves the PS pipe..er I mean PS cooler, if it's easier - I think so).

Good luck.

If you have installed a new pump, you can flush the system without contaminating the new pump. You will remove the return line (it doesnt matter where from the rack to the cooler to the pump that you do this - your choice). You will add fluid to the pump and the new fluid will displace the old fluid into the bucket. The old stuff doesnt go back into the new pump.

Cool?

I would do a flush with old lines, but it's up to you and what you have done already (I wouldnt worry about it much).

You would be adding fluid to keep the reservoir topped off as the car idles with the return line vented into a bucket. Having an assistant there to shut the car off is nice.

When the fluid coming out of the return line looks clean, you should be getting close to done.

Check your repair manual or the instructions with your pump - both might have some info to help.

Good luck.
