Guys, picking up my car from the shop today. Had head gaskets replaced. The old gasket he took out of the car had like 6 or 7 holes blew through it and damage along the holes for coolant and oil. The machanic is telling me im getting really bad detonation. The thing is i was never getting this before and all the parts are brand new, was it just because the gasket was on wrong and it just got really blew out, or do i have bad detonation? I have no boost retard on their but my tuner tuned around it. I just cant figure out why all of the sudden i wuold be getting pre det?!

What kind of fuel system do you have? Also, change in the weather can cause detonation.

i have Bosch 42lb injectors and a 255 fuel pump. I was told pre det could be ignition, timing, or fuel system problems, but its all brand new and i cant believe that it would go faulty so quick. The machanic is turning up the timing to 23 degrees to be safe, do you think im ok in boost mode or should i keep it down until i sell it? Trading her in on thur i htink for a silver 03 cobra.

If he backed the timing DOWN to 23 total what was it to begin with? Sounds like you may have had too much timing. Do you have a chip burnt for it? You said you had it tuned...I would stick it on a dyno and see if something obvious was going on if it were me. Or you could just be nice to it until you trade it in and let the next owner worry about it lol.

you had holes blown through the gasket? huh? Pre detonation?? LOL, it's either detonating, or its not,no such thing as "pre" detonation.

Typically, the gasket will be blown out either between 2 adjacent cylinders a the thinnest part, ot between the cylinder and a water passage.

Get a proper tune.

The bloody 94-95 computers REALLY suck. I would be tempted to swpa in a A9L and get it re tuned.

I was going to say something about that too, but I knew what he meant. It can be preIGNITION or detonation... Either way, the outcome is not good
