Prepping to paint PICs(warning)

cant wait. Do you remember when we had it at my house and the timing was off so much that the carb was shooting flames?? You've come a long way since then and that wasnt that long ago either. I hope it turns out just the way you want it.

I'll take more pics tomorrw. The lighting wasn't that great in the paint booth. I like the way it turned out. It'll be a nice 15-20 footer. For my first paint job I'm satisfied. I'm going to try some Nicsand to polish. Its an aluminum oxide sanding gel suposed to be like 10,000 grit.

Looks great.. I am enjoying your write up as I am also about to do my first "full car" paint job.

I used to help a buddy out doing touchup's and repainting bumbers etc. But never a full car. Out of curiosity, how much paint and clear did you go through on that job? Any hints that you wished you knew about before hand? When you say it's a 10 footer - what negatives did you get? Runs?

At any rate, your definatly helping me get the nerve to do my car myself. Wether it comes out good or bad, I can always resand and paint over it.

I'm surprised this thread is getting so many looks. This was so much fun I want to do it again. I used 3 pints of yellow(unmixed). It was a 1:1 mixing ratio so total volume was 6 pints or 3 quarts of yellow. Clear was about 2 quarts mixed. Beforehand, had I known the lint that was under the paint when I was shooting would rise to the surface of the clear and rub off after drying I would have not worried so much. There are no runs, go figure, I think it was the 1.3 tip I used, its smaller than average and atomizes the paint more. I think next time I will spend more time block sanding and wax&grease removing. Tack cloth before paint, it doesn't leave lint. The day I went in to buy the paint I spent 2 hours asking questions and figuring things I needed. I was so shy and didn't want to sound stupid going in there, but after a while the girl behind the counter warmed up to me and started giving me tips on getting the paint where I wanted it. So basically what I'm saying, hang out at the paint shops, feel out the ones that will answer your questions and spend some time there. BE PATIENT.
