could anyone tell me exactly what makes a car a pro street? When i am looking around at race cars some say pro street and some don't even though they are basically the same set ups (at least from what i can see) been kicking the idea around of getting a II clunker and making a flat out race car but this pro street thing has me a bit confused. could pro street just mean that has lights and full exhaust or could it be the class they ran the car in?

thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question just tired of trying to figure it out

My understanding is: Pro Street = street legal + track scary.

typically a pro-street car will have a good amount of engine build-up, a roll-bar, and usually tubbed. When I see that type of car, that's what I call it, anyways.

Agree'd, typically Pro-Street is a street legal race car. Typically has roll cage, tubb'd rear, fat tires, fuel cell, etc...Like this one a Pro-Street blown V-6 that's for sale on eBay.

Think of an NHRA pro stock car. Now, think of that same car as street legal. Ergo: Pro street

Sal's maniac brother. Everytime I start to think my car's badass, Sal posts a pic of that thing.

Up for sale again? Seems like it was on eBay just last year.

Its a really beautiful car, and I imagine that the builder easily spent the $15K asking price to build it. I just don't understand the V6. Don't get me wrong, I love the 2.8L V6, but the audience that's interested in ProStreet cars is just not interested in a 300 HP V6. Its probably going to take a 500+ HP V8 to motivate people to buy this one.

Now that V6 would be really wicked in a lighter car, like an early Capri or Pinto. Maybe even an early Ranger...

I was going to build an aluminum svo v-6 block for my Pro streeter. Bored and stroked to 302 cid, but I would easily have had $ 10000.00 in the motor alone. So I opted out for the 460

Okay, I'll bite. How did you get a 460 into a II, and do you have pics?

i am sorry , my pro streeter was a 79 fox body, BUT there was a II on ebay with a BLOWN 460 and I saw it @ the all ford nats in Carlisle. It is marroon candy in color. He is local here in PA somewhere. What I was getting at is you could build a heck of a v-6 ( more than 300 horse) and be light too

Several 460 cars have been featured, one used to be blue up here in WA, but you never saw it at any shows or the like. At one time there was also a black one, both never showed very good engine pics. They did however both use motor plates. I seem to also remember a red one up near Dearborn that had a single side shot in Hot Rod. Usually they point to the Gapp and Roush drag cars as blueprints.
