Problem adding fuel

Am I the only one who is having difficulty getting fuel into my new GT? At most stations, it keeps kicking back, same as a full tank does, and it is taking me forever to slowly add fuel. Is it a venting problem? Have tried all the different combinations I can think of as far as angle of nozzle and how far to feed it in, but nothing seems to work. And no, I'm not trying to add fuel to a full tank! Would appreciate any advice -

Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

Instead of stuffing it in all the way try pulling it back a bit.

There was another post on this a while back so you're not alone. I don't remember if it was resolved. I assume since you're in England you can't ask your dealer... Do a search here and at Brad's... I would assume it is some kind of venting issue.

Maybe this Stang is so bad a**, it only takes jet fuel?

It has happened to others that have posted the same problem (also happens in other cars so its not a Mustang error) the answer is actually simple turn the nozzle upside down, this seems to work. It also apparently isnt happening at all gas stations according to those reporting the problem, I guess the nozzle they use. Outside of that I guess you would have to take it back to Ford to fix permanently. I have yet to fill up since I just got my car on Saturday.

Did you change anything, or did it just get better by itself? Yes, I'm in England but there is a Ford warranty place here, only about 30 miles from my house, but I hate to give it to them, since it usually takes forever here to get anything done. And if they decide to replace a part - well, you can imagine! Everything has to come to them from a stateside dealer, and has to go through customs here, etc, etc. In two weeks or so I might be on the road again. One of the prices we pay to drive the best over here! Everyone in America who can just run down to their local dealer or parts shop should realize how lucky they are.

I'll try inverting the nozzle, and probably drop by the warranty shop and ask if they have any ideas -

That only happens to me at 1 specific gas station I've gone to. Others do not.

Went to the Ford warranty shop here in England, the other GT that arrived here 3 weeks ago, with mine, has also called them, same problem. They called Ford in the States while I was there and it was confirmed that it has been a known fault on some of the 05s, they apparently sent out a notice on it in November. No fix in the works right now, but they will call me in when they get some more info. Til then I will just look cool in the petrol station for a few minutes longer than usual - small price to pay! Thanks again for the input from everyone - you guys are great!

They do that so people won't buy american cars over there....


I don't know how the pumps are in England, maybe they are made different and that is why you are having more problems then the US people.

If the have that protective covering on the pump nozel, that black thing you need to push down to get the pump to start. Try holding that back by and, and leaving a little air space between that and the cars intake. That may releive what seems to be maybe a vacuum being made when putting in fuel.

Or just go to Full service, and make them pump it!

Thats not true
Cause as I mentioned on my earlier post, I have the same problem, and last time I checked Ohio was in US

I think its just a malfunction that needs to be fixed,,, Ford already knows about this, according to my dealer,,,
But as it always is with new vehicles(with new bodystyle and all) it always takes some times for them to come up with solutions to any new problems ,,, patience is the key!,,,,

Yeah, you're right. Pumps here in UK are same as back home, no big rubber bellows like we had back in Texas (anti-fume stuff). Hope they publish a fix soon, but hey - not the end of the world. No one minds watching me take forever to fill the tank, they are too busy looking over the 'Stang!

i am having the same identical problem, but not at all gas stations. I believe that some pumps auto-shutoff feature is set more sensitive than others is the reason it's not at all pumps.

I had the same problem at two different gas stations in Germany and one in Austria. It was really getting on my nerves because it's cold as a landlords soul out there and it was taking forever to fill up. I refueled in Croatia and there was no problems, and far as I can tell all of the pumps were the same.
