I know this isnt exactly tech, but it could help people who are having similar probs.

As most of you know, i've been having lots of problems out of my car. All the test i ran came up fine. BTW the car dynoed at 150 RWHP and 228 ft-lbs tq.

I gave up, and took it to a shop. This guy knows mustangs, he drags them ect. It ends up, someone messed with my timing before i got the car, and really got it out of whack. He fixed it, and set it at 10* which is stock. When he test drove it, it pinged like MAD, so he brought it back, and set it to 8*. He said that if i got some plug wire dividers, instead of wire ties, that could help. He also said that the spount connector didnt read the right ohms, and he recocomended me replacing it. So i need plug wire dividers, a new spout, then i'll be able to set the timing to 10*. He said when he drove it at 10* it was WAY faster than at 8*...so i'm excited to get it totally done.

Anwyays, the difference is night and day, the car is a whole new animal...

WHERE CAN I GET A SPOUT AND HOW MUCH ARE THEY?

It's strange that it pings at 10 degrees though. That's the stock setting, and a lot of us turn the base timing as far as 18 degrees advanced. It's good to know you got the problem sorted out though. :nice:

You can get a spout connector at a junk yard or Ford, but good luck trying to explain what you are looking for. The original may have a part number on it if I remember right.

Yeah, you know how you go to the parts store .... then ask for a (common) part .... & they say they DON"T HAVE IT. Then you give them that "WTF look". Well, it'll be just the opposite for you this time, lol. They'll be giving YOU that look.

Good deal...sounds like a cheap fix....While back I pulled a kinda wacky code that was spout connected....could be what yours is???

All you need now is a AFR/Eddy/FTI combo to add 150+ ponies.... :(

Geez! That's a lot of timing...

Matt, it's great to see you got your issues worked out. :nice: I don't know where you can get a spout though, other than a junkyard like somebody already mentioned.

Half the Fords out there use SPOUT connectors - a J/Y will have plenty. A jumper wire works well too (some guys use a switch instead so they just toggle back and forth when setting timing. That is asking for a resistance issue with underhood heat IMHO).

Good luck.

The spout connector can be gotten at a Ford dealer parts dept for about $3

I failed to plug mine back in years back and lost it. I used a small piece of speaker wire looped into a U shape with the ends stripped. All the spout connector is is a jumper that conncets the 2 leads in the harness and gives the EEC control over the dizzy.

If you're still pinging after doing all this, try replacing the ACT (Air Charge Temp) sensor that is in the rubber intake tube right in front of the shock tower.

I don't know that it would be a cause here .... but BTW he's referring to the IAT (Intake Air Temp.) sensor.

thanks hissin!! and chris, my car is actually fun now

I still remember when I first got my stang. It was real slow (lost to my dad's 01 F350 Turbo Diesel, lol) and it kept getting worse and worse. It got to the point where it wouldn't even spin the tires in the rain! :( Found out it was a MAF and replaced it, HOLY CRAP the car was 100000x faster! I thought it was the fastest thing in the world, lol. It was soooo much fun. :)

thats how my car was man. Mine still has more in it, after i get a new spout...i cant wait to bump the timing up more :D

Since no one has mentioned it...I will take a stab at it. Have you checked your balancer? It could have slipped and what you think is 10* could really be 15 or 20. This happened to me...I was using a big wet unit and trying to retard my timing so it wouldnt blow up...well the balancer had slipped and what I thought was 8* was like 4*...it can slip either way...just give it a check. Hope this helps
