Problem with revving in neutral

I have an 06' GT with a standard, and whenever I shift to neutral, the car will just start revving up to 3,000 RPM's. I could be cruising at 800 in 5th, but the minute I shift to neutral to coast to a stop sign, it starts revving. Has anyone else had an issues with this? I'm gonna try taking it to the dealer soon, and have it looked at, but if anyone has any ideas.

Something's not right. I have an '05 GT manual tranny and have no such issues. See your dealer quick.

my idle will raise to about 1000-1200 at a stop or after cruising for a while

I had the same problem once, check the floor mat mine was shoved up under the gas pedel and was making it rev?

It's odd, if I push the clutch in, the RPM's drop to 1000, but if it's in neutral by itself, it's at 3000. I'm about go adjust the mats and see if that helps

An update for any of you that care. I ran it by the local ford dealership, and was told this is normal operation for the mustang. It's supposed to have high RPM's.

He insists that it is only because the car only has 2000 miles

thats not normal, i have an 06 gt manual tranny, it doesnt rev to 3 grand in neutral. i have about 850 miles on it in case that means anything to ya, dont know when your problem started.

Ahh The Infamous Revving in Neutral Problem. There is already a couple of threads about this mostly on the v6 models. I have concluded that the dealers are dumbarses and can't do nothing for it cause they can only use a factory tune.
I ran an experiment a while back by disconnecting the tranny sensor (VSS)and low and behold it actually cured the problem but you cant go with out a speedometer. If you noticed when you push the clutch in then the revs will drop off, Once again I hint at a fricked up tune
So it seems that ppl with SCT tuners and have custom tunes don't have this problem. When my warrenty is out I'll be tuning mine only 16000 miles to go.
Sad aint it, U pay 25k for a car that revs up when your coasting next to some hot babe in a camaro.

Got the car back last night, and the dealer still claims the same thing. However, it's not doing it anymore, one of their tests appears to have corrected the problem, at least temporarily.

It's kinda funny, they admit the problem on report, says, "test drove, verified concern. TSB says says car should be at 6000 in neutral." Apparently, they think I'm stupid since this is my first standard I wish I knew someone higher-up at Ford to ask about it, sure would be nice when I get the stupid satisfaction survey back from this dealer.

If it acts up again, I'll take it to another dealer.

Here we go again

Just thought I'd let everyone know it's doing it again. Except it's worse this time, pushing in the clutch doesn't help. My car shakes quite violently when shifting into first gear at 4000-6000 RPMS. The dealership now can't find this issue, so they gave me this cool looking to sensor to push to record the data of when it's doing it so they can find it.

I removed the floormats and haven't turned cruise on to help pinpoint the problem, anyone have any other ideas?

WOW, i didnt think it would even go into first at 4000 RPM.
