i am putting together my 347. its still on the stand. i have gt40p heads and a xe266hr cam. with an air gap intake. anyway i have 1.6rr's. i recently have tried to bolt down my roller rockers. i had the cam on the base circle for each rocker. tried to torque it down until the pushrod would stop spinning. i reach 20ftibs before it stops spinning. the problem i am having is i keep breaking the little fulcrums that the rockers sit on. they crack in two. since the engine hasn't been primed and the lifters aren't pumped up i am assuming that is why i can't keep the pushrod from spinning. is this a common problem to crack this little bastards so often or am i doing something wrong. i was told 20 was what they needed to be torqued to. :bang:  :notnice: or am i just over torquing them.

also would it be wise to leave my valve covers :) off until the engine makes it into the car.?

You need to soak your lifters in oil over night before installing them. This way they will fill up and you will stop spliting the top of the push rods. The reason they are braking is because there is no presure in the lifters and you're tightening them until they bottom out.
