Hey guys has anyone installed a Wilwood big brake package on their car? I've had nothing but issues and their tech line is useless. I got the 6 piston super light front calipers and single piston with internal e-brake rear. This is all going into a 2000 Mustang GT. ABS No traction control.

Now to the real issue. The new E-brake cable is about a foot longer than stock so you can NOT route it the same way even though the instruction say too. I did mostly the same path but had to route it in the wheel well in order to have a clean run with no bends. Now when you pull the parking brake it only releases halfway and I can not get it to release unless I either go to the caliper or the e brake handle and manually move it. The spring on the back on the caliper is very light or easy to compress compared to the stock calipers. I could engage and disengage the parking brake very easily by hand with the new caliper. So now the caliper spring wont overcome the cable and wilwood wont give me an answer why they just said they cant help me anymore i just need to adjust it per the instructions. So anyone have any ideas since im at a dead end??
Thanks
John

WOW, surpised they are acting that way. I have found them helpful on the drag set-ups Ive done in the past. You could try a slightly heavier spring on the caliper to see if that helps release the cable. Otherwise Id shorten the cable or replace it with a diffrent cable to get what you need.

Any idea where I could get a heavier spring? It looks like the factory spring is too thick to fit in the holder plus its mounted differently. I’ve searched online but no luck either.

I'm either thinking that or my actual shifter handle is a little worn out even though the car has 40K and my factory brakes were fine. Just don’t want to spend more money. You need to buy so many more parts to get this kit to work and its not even done yet!!!

Well finally spoke with someone yesterday who was a little help. I took some videos today and the problem is 100% the spring they use for the return of the e-brake is way way too weak. I have video of the differences. I could hardly move the factory return spring. The guy said they sold hundreds of kits with no problems. I guess they shipped them and im the first to install/buy a kit. I don’t see how they could make something and not test it. They keep insisting there is nothing wrong with their set up and its installed wrong.

The last guy told me to ship the calipers back to them but I have to pay shipping unless i send it back to summit as a defect. Im still going to have the same problem because the springs just arent strong enough. Anyone else have any insight??

Was the person you talked to from Willwood or Summit? Where did you buy your kit as well?
