Problems With Ford!!!

i need to get in touch with anyone who has an 01 or newer gt who noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine bay. the ticking sound comes from defective cylinder heads. when i had about 6000 miles on it, i took it in to my dealer and complained of a ticking noise. After three days they gave it back to me saying that it was normal. About three months ago (i now have 42,000 miles)i found out that ford sent out a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to all dealers letting them know what the ticking sound is coming from. when i called my dealer and asked them to fix this they told me that because i was out of my warranty they are not responsible for it. Its gonna be hard for you to pull this one off but its worth a fight. First of all if the dealer you just contacted was the one that said it was normal and you have documented on paper they stated it was normal then its time to go to ford. Give them an opportunity to fix it. After that you need to do some lemon law research and write out a letter to then stating the problem that was not fixed and needs to be taken care of and that they need to fix it or legal action will be taken.

Not real sure if you have the legal grounds being that its that many miles but I hope it works out.

I havent had the problem (yet) but I am pretty sure that they have to fix it wether you are under the warranty or not since Ford issued a TSB about the problem. Can you go to a different Ford dealer?

I also had a problem with Ford but i lost my car for a year and 6 months. All the law crap will get you no where.

If you want anything to get done do what i did get a hold of the consumer services and tell them to send you a letter. In that letter they will ask you to tell the story. Tell the story and then send it. A attorney will look it over and if the attorney see's that the dealer is trying to pull a fast one they will fight the dealer with you.

Well i did that can i got my car back and didn't have to pay 8,000 dollars.

my ticking has been coming from UNDER the car...around the tranny/exhaust...almost ratttle-like. the engine purrs!

I just detailed a 2002 GT Vert that made a ticking sound. I guess it is a kinda common thing to happen. I wonder if something is wrong or if its just a pain in the ass.

We had a problem with our 2001 F-250 (trans) and 2 different Ford Dealers, thought we were nuts. All the while, our truck was still under warranty....what those 2 different Ford Dealers didnt know was...my Brother is a Mechanic for a different Ford Dealer.

Here is what you guys need to know, if you already dont know...

1. If you think you have a problem under warranty, it will be documented and...if the problem to the consumer proceeds until out of warranty, Ford is supposed to stand behind it.

2. Dealership Mechanics, do not like warranty work at all!!!! They dont make the money they would normally on non-warranty work. Most Mechanics, will push off the warranty work, and tell you there isnt a problem, unless its very glaring.

3. Mechanics, go by "codes"...if your vehicles doesnt show a "code", that is pretty much the end of the diagnosis.

Now to the problem we had...Our P/U wasnt backing down with the O/D off! 2 different mechanics, from 2 differet dealers, hooked it up and told us there were no codes on it.
When you drove the vehicles, you could clearly see, that over 40 miles an hour, the truck just wouldnt back down. They basically told us we were nuts!!!
Now the solution....my brother took it to his work, there tranny specialist, drop the pan, and saw metal shavings in the oil and we got a new tranny from them.
This particular Ford dealer, was very pissed that 2 other dealers pushed it off and didnt fix the problem.

Botom line is...if you know you have a problem, you need to push the issue!!! You most definately have rights as a consumer!

I have been a Ford Tech for 10 years I will agree If you feel you have a problem keep bringing it in and get documentation then you can ged a Field engineer involved if your problem is not resolved. Ford techs dont really have that big of a problem with warranty work, but we are not paid for diagnosis if a problem is not found, this puts us in a bad situation when confronted with intermittent problems. We could spend 3 hours testing your vehicle for a intermittent concern and if we dont find the problem we are not paid anything

i have had ticking coming from my heads for over a year. had it in, got the normal speech from ford. my buddy just got a used 02 gt with 8k miles. sounds just like mine.

maybe this ticking is normal. every gt i hear seems to sound like this.

heres a good question. how do you tell the difference between the normal ticking form the notorious loud 01 up gt engines, and the ticking that ford was issued the tsb for?

i think i will make a seperate post, to see if anyone knows.

im replacing mine with fox lake p&p heads early next year. hope they dont sound the same

I have an 02 Gt vert and we noticed the ticking sound from the day we baught the car new.I thaught it was normal and didn't pay much attention to it.But it got louder and the car didn't even have 8000 miles yet.When I found out about the TSB that Ford sent out i took my car to one of the local Ford dealers and they could hear the load ticking noise that was coming from the engine bay and said that it wasn't right.Well after keeping my car for two days they called me back and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.I asked them about the TSB and the shop manager told me he has not recieved anythig like that from Ford.My wife and i went to get the car and after we pulled the out of the service bays it seemed as if the ticking had got louder.My wife went straight in and cussed all them so called service advisers out and told them they are deaf.Well we took the car to another local Ford dealer and once the service adviser heard the ticking......he knew what it was and showed me the TSB and they gave me a rental and i had my car back in a week fixed.They replaced the heads.So you should take your car to another Ford dealer and see what they say.

Do you hear the ticking sound when the car is moving or right after you turn off the engine?

Definately have the dealership document ANYTHING when you bring your car in. Especially when you have a problem and they say it is nothing. This will go a long way if you ever need it.

If this was not done, ask around and see if any Ford Dealership in your area has a good track record and bring the car there. Sometimes a small town dealership will go a lot further than a big one...

My dad was a Mechanic with GM for 40+ years. He laughs when he hears stuff like this. Part of the problem is these big dealerships have million dollar machines (diagnostics etc.) and do not have the trained techs to work them. Dealerships do not all pay great money to attract skilled workers. So there is a good change you will have to deal with one of these morons. (And no, I am not saying all mechanics are morons...).

The other issue is what a previous poster said - Dealerships do not like warrenty work. Dealerships will have a back log of paperwork to send to the corporations to get credit for the work. In some cases, they either do not focus someone on this paperwork and it falls behind, or more the case they do not want to waste technical manpower of paperwork. Either way - ultimately, we the consumer gets the shaft.

Are you saying that if no codes are found then you wont try to find the problem a different way? Your almost saying that the mechanics dont know enough to find the problem quickly, so they dont want to bother with it.

Here is the TSB for the ticking noise.I had my engne replced for the ticking noise.

What your dealer is telling you isint entirely true, this is why no matter what dealer I go to I treat them like gold and never raise my voice or give them a hard time. Little known fact is that if your just over your warranty period and dealership can use a "Good Will" repair. IE: If your a good client they will stick there neck out for you and have the work done at either a 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% discount. They will only give the discount depending on what the problem is when they open the part that is causing the issue. Usualy in cases like this, they will have a Ford inspector come by and check and he will decide if its a manufacurer defect or just plain abuse.

If you only complained once at 6k and your at 42k and never complained about this problem again, then you might be out of luck.

Go in, talk to the service guy, show him your a good customer and ask him if theres anything he can do for you and that you would appreciate ANYTHING.

If you kept the 6000 mile service order AND it lists the problem then I believe you have recourse to getting it fixed. You'll have to appeal your case to the Ford DSO to get action. The dealer is not going to volunteer to do an above warranty repair. The Ford DSO can authorize it and then the dealer will be happy to comply (since he gets paid by Ford). If you can't get Ford to give you the DSO's address and phone then call your insurance company and see if they can assist. A lot of times insurance agents know the DSO's address and phone.
