I moved my Orion XTRpro 500.4 amp into my truck from my stang. I am getting alot of interference in the speakers that sounds like it is coming through the RCAs. The pitch changes when I rev the motor in my truck. However, if I hold the RCAs really tight up agains the amp, the interferance goes away completely. I think there is a bad connection inside the amp.

Does anyone else have one of these? Ever experienced a similar problem?

Move the rcas from the power wires if they are crossing. If that doesn't work, invest in a better set of RCAs. This definately sounds like a ground loop problem.

1. make sure rca's aren't all wound up in a ball and tucked away.
2. as mentioned about move rca's away from power wire.
3. make sure your amp is not screwed directly into the cars chasie, this is usually the main culprit for the ground loop noise. (to fix carpet a pice of wood mount that to the frame and mount the amp to the wood.)
4. Check your ground make sure its good.
5 if all else fails buy a Ground loop isolator but i have only had to do this once on a Jensen amp..

Its not that. I was just switching amps from my less powerfull JL to my more powerfull Orion. No interference with the same RCAs on the JL. Interference with the Orion. The RCAs only come close to the power cable when they are right near the amp. I am using excellent RCA cables. They are the RCA brand which while inexpensive has gold plated terminals and is shielded with braided stainless.

I wanted to know if anyone had experienced a similar problem that might be using the same amp?

it doesnt matter if the same RCA's or not. Some amps are just noisy or pick up sound really easy,I still say try a ground loop isolator.

I opened up the amp and there is a loose spot on the board where the RCAs plu in. The gold connecters are broken in a spot but they join back together if you push in on them. Thats why I can get rid of the interferance by pushing on the RCAs really hard. I wonder if I can get a PC repair shop to solder that back together permanently?

For now I put the JL amp back in. Im goin to try for a 2 channel McIntosh! Get rid of the Orion if I have to.

You have a Mcintosh amp and your using the orion? Thats like having a lambo and driving the fiat! Is it an old school mcintosh or a new one, i love those things Ive seen a system from the mid 80's that still pounds till this day with those amps.

No no Im not that ignorant. I am trying to buy one in order to replace my failing Orion.

Since I am in a truck and only preamping the fronts anyways. I am going to try and get a 2 channel McIntosh for the Kappa Perfects.

BTW, when that orion works it sounds great. What a difference going from 300/4 JL to 500/4 Orion! It is loud.
