Problems...

Recently I have noticed a squeel when driving my 98 GT. When i put the clutch in the squeel stops. But if i put a little preassure on the clutch pedal while driving it stops. After talking to a guy with a 96 Gt he said he had similar problems and replaced his harmonic balancer and this noise went away. My mechanic seems to think its the throwout bearing may be faulty. A new hevey duty ram clutch was put into the car about 3 thousand miles ago with no problems. About 400 miles ago I put 3.90's in the rear end.

Anyone have a similar expirence? What do you recommend doing?

It is no suprise that your mechanic is correct and your friend is way way off. When the clutch was installed you should have replaced many things while you were in there. Since you did not do it right the first time you will now have to go back in there and correct the situation.

Even if the TOB was replaced with the new clutch...isn't it a common problem for mustangs to have noise with the TOB? The friend i bought my car from replaced the clutch on it with a resurfaced flywheel and a brand new TOB, and it still makes small squeaky noises.

Ya but this is like a loud squeel or hum.... And thats with the brand new clutch, tob, and resurfaced fly wheel

True, even with a new TOB, the noise could occur, but not likely on new. I do remember there were threads about this a while back where someone shot some oil in an access hole down there to stop the noise. Does anyone have that info? Could try that first, before going down the route of replacing.

exactly, but with one minor detail.

the throwout bearing needs to be lubed. i always say, when it comes to lube, the more the merrier.
the squeak is caused by lack of lubrication. thats the problem. in my experiance, SPEC clutches/products tend to squeak more than any other brand, no matter how well lubed sometimes.

as for the minor detail, shooting oil at the bearing will fix the sqeak temporarily. oil is thin and breaks down. some thicker grease (moly) would be better, but would require taking out the tranny.

He won't HAVE to go back and replace anything. A noisey TOB will not hurt anything or cause any problems. It's just very annoying.
