 ok guys, tonight i was offered a progcharger s/c by a friend of mine. He is playing middle man for the deal. He said they guy doesnt want to put it on his 04 GT so he wants to sell it.

He is asking 1,700 for it. Suposedly it is a brand new in the box procharger supercharger, with all the hardware and intercooler.

My question to you guys out there is, is it worth it? It almost sounds TOO good to be true, ya know?

For anyone that is running a procharger, how do you like it? any problems?

What are the pro's and con's or the procharger setup?

I was going to hold out for a vortech, but i dont want to pass up a super good deal. I want to go S/C really bad!

Would i need anything else for the install?

What should i beware of or look out for? Does this sound too good to be true or fishy to anyone?

Any and all comments that will help are welcomed. :nice:

Here is a list of what i have so far.

2004 GT vert with almost 38k. She is a daily driver for now.

DenseCharger CAI
Stock MAF
BBK 70mm T/B
TrickFlow Plennum

Mac Cat back
FRPP Aluminum D/S
FRPP 3.73's
And a diablo Predator with dyno tune.

MM Sub frame's

MM LCA's VERY soon.

I was going to stay n/a till after i finish school, wait till i get on an agency and i would be good to go. But this sounds like a deal too good to pass up.
i would have to barrow a little bit from my oh so wonderful g/f to pull this off.

Sorry for the long write up but this would be a huge investment for me and i need all the advice and input you guys can offer. I would need to make the final decsion with in like in day or two.

Thanks SN! :SNSign: :nice:

Well for one I'd look to see what all is included in the kit he has, where did he buy the kit from, what's his reasoning for selling it??? A lot of the times when it's too good to be true it usually is. Is there something missing.

Don't forget about dyno tuning to make sure that everything is in order once it's installed if you get that far.

I would definitely make sure it's a complete kit for that price. It is a great deal so do your homework first. As of the procharger, I have one that runs 10psi with a 3-core intercooler. I love it. With a Lund tune, I am running 411 rwhp on my 00 GT. Boost kicks in around 2500 rpms which is nice with 3:73s in the rear. Also, the oil change is easy and you don't have to tap into your oil system. The only thing you might not like is the sound. It is very loud for a supercharger, which I personally like. That depends on you though.

Overall, I would recommend a procharger.

For the price, I wouldn't pass it up. Let's say your getting a kit that does not include injectors and a tune up. It's still to your benefit to take up the offer, unless it doesn't come with atleast the 2-core intercooler. Personally, even if it came with the chip, I wouldn't rely on it, and I'd go with a custom dyno tuned chip. I've had mine for about 1 1/2yr. with the setup and haven't had any problems with the engine or oil changes, as long as you don't constantly abuse the car. ProCharger's do tend to release a little oil so don't freak out if you see oil build up around the supercharger at times. I've seen this on my own and on plenty of others including GTO's and Camaros. As far as oil changes, the P1SC has a bronze drain plug underneath it, no need to take the whole supercharger off, you just have to order the oil directly from Procharger and they run about $35 for 3 bottles/3 oil changes that require change out every 3 month.

Results are night and day, your 3.73 gears work pretty good if your running with drag radials but from dead stop you'll need to have good control of the clutch all the way to 3rd gear. I bought mine for $2,800 used for 6month, and I'm happy with it, although I still needed a custom tune, and a larger mass air meter. I'd say, just go with your gut instinct, but it's defintely worth it, and it puts out good power and torque numbers.

it is definatly worth it if the major components are there and in working order. just remember with a used kit you might have to replace some minor items that are worn or missing. i am having t wait on a pulley rom vortech... gonna have to check everything prior to install

ok, cool. thanks guys. I want to go see this kit in person. If everything looks good then i will buy it.

Procharger guys, thanks for chiming in. I didnt know how loud they were. But for that price i can put up with it.

Does anyone know what these things retail for?

The guys that are putting down over 400 hp with these setup's. Do you have any internal mods or do you have the basic bolt on's and the s/c?

One last Q, what are some signs of this thing being used, reman'd vs. brand new? Just want to make sure he is not pulling a fast one on me.

Brand new, about $4,000

Rusty parts, scuff marks on the brackets bolt holes from previously being bolted on, wear marks on the idler pulleys, wrench marks on the bolts. It's pretty easy to see if this things ever been out of the box.

I'm supposed to go see it in person some time this week. I'm going to snap a few pics with my cell phone also. :nice:

But how do i know which one it is? I think he said it was bought recently, like within the past month or two.

Which model do i want to stay away from? which one has problems?
