Anyone in the NC, SC, VA, TN area have a programer which can change my speedo to adjust for the 4.10's I have in the rear? I need to make the change because I'm running up miles like crazy and I'm too broke right now to get Custom Performance to do it.
I'm sure we could work out a way I could pay you back!

Thanks!

ok I'm just posting again to bring this back to the front.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules by doing that. If I am I apologize, just let me know so I don't do it again.

Thanks guys

Are you talking about your 66? Aren't those mechanical speedometers? If so, then there should be some gear that you replace. The programmer route is for 99-04s, I believe.

Nah, this isn't for my 66. It's for my 2000 GT Convertable. I thought I'd heard that with some of the power programers you could change your speedo to read correctly after changing your gears. Well I changed my gears like 6 months ago and I haven't been able to afford adding the part that does the convertion or to get my computer reflashed.
So I was hoping that someone who had one of those programers could help me get mine corrected so I knew how fast I was going. It became more urgent after I got pulled over for going down an off ramp of the freeway going 69 miles per hour past a stopped black and white.
He didn't think it was as funny as I did when I told him something was broke with my speedo because it said I went past at 98MPH. Some cops just don't have a sense of humor!
Anyway, I'm too broke to get it fixed and I've got to get it done ASAP...I'm tired of guessing. LOL

I didn't know you couldn't use a programmer on more than one car.
What do you do when you buy one used off Ebay or something?
Hey can you explain what you mean about the speedcal thing? Are you saying buy a used one, or that once you use one you don't need it anymore and then you could use it on someone elses car? Please explain...

Thanks everyone for your help!

you don't see a whole lot of used ones on ebay.. usually diablo or sct will let you trade a used one in though for a bit of a discount on a new one.

I'm not sure about the speedcal thing, maybe somebody could chime in who knows better. But a speedcal could fix your problem and I don't think it locks to a certain car, if that's the case then you should be able to buy a used one.

Used speedcals and Predators are available for as little as $50 and $250 respectively. A brand new speedcal can be had for less than $100, but will not work if the car you want to use it on is an automatic. Both can only be used on one vehicle at a time. Used ones perform just as well as new ones as long as they have not been damaged.

Are they pretty easy to install? on a scale 1-10, ten being the most difficult, how would you rate the install of a speedcal?
Where would you suggest I look to get one in good condition and price? Ebay? Any model numbers better than others?

you programm one car,if you want to switch to another car,you have to put car #1 back to its stock settings.Thats how they make their money, otherwise 1 guy will buy one and programm everybody he knows.

I hate it when manufactures won't let you take advantage of them! Damn it.
That sucks in a way, What if you sell the car you've programed but don't want to sell your programer. Then the guy who buys your car get's it set back to the way it was stock (not running good). Which in my case, he's gonna wonder what's wrong with the speedo since now it's all wrong because of the gears but wasn't that way when he test drove it.
I guess they're making it so as if you buy one it goes with the car forever.

That's when you get a speedcal. A speedcal can go with the car when it's sold and not represent a big loss in $$.

So I take it a speedcal is the only way to go if I want to get this done inexpensively?

Anyone have a speedcal they want to sell for cheap?

Look on the numerous Mustang sites/forums....they show up usually for around $50 used. A new one isn't a lot more, running around $80 - $90
