try the SCT Xcalibrator 2. You can do your own custom tuning via USB on your own computer, and it can have 3 tunes. I have the Superchips Microtuner, which gave me about 23hp, and an improved shift pattern along with shift firmness. I prefer Superchips over the Predator in my opinion, and I have owned them both. I felt drivability of Superchips is more preferable to me than the drivability of the Predator tune. I like them both though.

Dude, If you don't know about these, you should go to a Dyno Tuner and have them do it. Seriously.

Just my opinion.

Get a used Predator if cost is an issue. It will do everything a new one will and allows for custom tuning later if you decide to go that route. The capability for 3 tunes on an XCal 2 allows you, for instance, to have an 89 octane performance tune, a 93 octane performance tune, and, say, a nitrous or race tune in addition to your stock tune all in one place. Personally if I wanted to do that I would get a 4 position chip. Both tuners have a datalogging feature, with the XCal 2 capabilities looking a little better than the Predator to me in that respect. You can't go wrong with either one, and I would expect about a 15 HP gain with the 93 octane performance tune that comes with either tuner.

"When" you change your rear gears it will allow correction of the speedometer, as it will also do for tire diameter changes from stock. It will also read and clear trouble codes, turn off T/C, remove speed/rev limiters, turn off rear O2 sensors, etc. This is all in addition to any changes made or not made to the stock or performance tune.

if you get a handheld programmer, they are fairly simple to use. the question on the screen are mostly yes/no choices. you shouldn't have a problem with the performance tune given in each of the handheld programmers just as long as you use premium 91+ octane fuel.
