I have installed and welded the torque box and toe panel. The cowl has been repaired and painted the color that the car will be, and the front left fender apron is in place (I still have to clean up the shock tower). Here are some pics.

Wow did you do the work yourself?

Want to come spend some time in Alabama and do some work on mine...

I could get you tickets to an Auburn game :)

Seriously looks good!

Ron

Thanks. Yeah, I am doing ALL the work myself, with the exception of the motor rebuild. That is going to have to wait.

The color is going to be a copper color, that is some off the shelf spray paint I bought to give the person I am doing the car for an idea of how it will look. He really likes the new copper color of the Nissan Murano's so we are going to do a color along those lines.

It doesn't look like you braced the door areas before cutting out the floors. It looks as if the car has already twisted from the pic. I have seen a pic of one that caved in!

How can you tell from these pics?

The car should be fine if the floors are cut and replaced one side at a time.

How can I measure that to make sure it hasn't twisted? I have measured along the frame rails and everything is nice and square right now up front. The car is at an angle in the pic, it wasn't levelled when I did that. Here is another pic from a different angle.

Come on, don't leave me hanging, please explain, how can I measure this? Is it possibly the angle of the pic? I only have one side out at any given time.

I'm not an expert here, however I'll attempt to share my opinion. Your rocker panels, roof, door pillars, torque boxes, etc form the structure that holds the two subframes (front and rear) together on a unibody car. Your floor panels, firewall, cowl box, etc individually add small amounts of support to the overall integrity of the structure. However given that you replaced the full cowl box, driver's side torque box and full floor panel all at once... I could see where you might loose a little bit of alignment. I wouldn't think the structure could collapse because you don't have any weight anywhere... you've removed the doors and everything in the engine bay. I think if you proceed in the future removing and repairing one thing at a time you'll be fine. That is what I done on my 68 fastback. I personally think bracing the doors to simply remove the floor panel is overkill on a coupe (convertible -yes). However the condition of your torque box is the only thing that worries me about your whole restoration. On the passenger's side you might try replacing the torque box before cutting out the floor panel. Overall I think you are doing a good job and I certainly can't discount your enthusiasm for this restoration... it looks like you've put a lot of hard work into it.
