ARBOC, it's too bad you live so far away from me, or I would be bringing my cobra and a checkbook to you this summer for a paint job.

Awesome job man, i'm a painter as well and use satajets too. Looks like your doing a really good job on everything. I'll be flaming my yellow stang after summer. I would do it this summer but last summer I painted my other car and a young girl broadsided it a few days later and totaled it. Just be very careful after you get it done and put all that time in it, lol. Very Very careful.

I have 2 DeVilbis GTi Milleniums, 1 for sealer and solids, and the other for metalics, and I use a sata jet nr2000 for clear.

I think I'm going to get a set of stock bullitts for now. This winter I'm planing on getting either the deep dish bullitts, chrome, or the American racing Torq thrusts II

Its the stock ford color. KF. The funny thing is I did a spray out card with Standox and It was to dark. I then called the Dupont rep and he gave me a spray out card that he did and it was way to light and there was to many metallica in it. I then called my buddy from Sikkens and he did a card for me. It was still a little light, but I really liked the color. Only thing was it was going to cost me big bucks to get the Sikkens paint because we don't have an account with them. So I ended up using the Standox. And I am happy with it.

Another update. I finally finished block sanding the whole car. Its smooth. I found a couple of pin holes and a stome chip or two so I will fill them in with a small amount of putty tomorrow. I was going to leave but then I decided i had time to mask it. I will be painting it late tomorrow afternoon and assembling it Saturday. I hoped to paint it early in the morning but we have a bunch of customer vehicles to do first. Oh well. heres the pics.

I also painted some interior parts I have mixed emotions about it and I also have mixed opinons about it from the guys at work. Some say it looks cool, looks good. Otheres say it looks to ricey, and it doesnt suit the car due to the fact it is grey and black already.

I'll give another update as soon as I'm finished tomorrow.

Ok. the car is painted. i have a few dirt chunks to polish out of the hood and my darn gun dripped on the trunk lid. I managed to save the trunk lid by adding another coat of clear. So it will take some minor polishing. The first two pics are after 3 coats of base coat. The rest is of when the car is clear coated, just before I hit bake.

Well tomorrow will be my last post on Project Blue Balls. It was real fun documenting my progress. I really hope this thread might help someone that wants to refinish there vehicle. If anyone needs help or information please just ask, I will try my best to answer the question to the best of my ability.

Dude that looks awesome! Do you have to bake a car for the paint? I want to learn how to paint my car but I would have no way to do that. What kind of gun/other tools did you use?

Well thank you very much. You don't have to bake your car, it just speeds up the curing process. You can just leave it over night with out a bake cycle.
I have 5 guns. 1 Mac tools mini spot gun, 1 Devilbiss Primer gun, 2 Devilbiss Millenium GTI, for base and sealer, and 1 Sata jet NR2000 for clear coat. Along with an assortment of hand and power tools.

No you wouldn't need all those guns. You need 1 gun. I just spoiled myself and got them over the years.

do you need the guns with the bottle over the nozzle? The one i have has the paint bottle below. I am about to paint my car and have a few questions. This is my first time. i just bought some primer, and he said they have the kind that is porous and the kind that has a moother finish? i bought the first kind, do i need to put on the "finisher" type primer before i paint? Next, how many coats of primer should i use, and how long should i wait between coats? i bought it at napa. Then what grit should i use to sand it before the base coat? i am going to paint it black, do you think a gallon of paint and the reducer that you mix it with will be enough for the car? Next, after the base, do i need to sand it, and what grit? How many coats of base and how long should i wait between coats? same for the clear? i would really appreciate any help you could give me, because ive never painted a car before.
